Bio

Asst. Prof. Gopal Wamane is a multi-disciplinary researcher and practitioner with expertise in political science, electronics, and disaster risk governance. Currently pursuing a Ph.D. at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, his research spans disaster risk governance and localisation, practices in disaster management, gender equity, democratic governance, and public policy.

Asst. Prof. Wamane leverages on-field experiential learning to foster impactful outcomes for communities while advancing his own professional development. He has actively engaged in outreach initiatives in border states such as Arunachal Pradesh and the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir as part of youth training programs, and has contributed to tribal development in Palghar district, Maharashtra, focusing on skill development, child nutrition, and sustainable agriculture. He has also completed a course at the Khadi Village Industries Commission (KVIC) in entrepreneurship development for agro-based industries and livelihood generation.

Asst. Prof. Gopal Wamane has published extensively on topics such as sustainable development, disaster management, and social inclusion. His notable works include a paper on enhancing the circular economy through ESG principles and biomimicry, published in Management of Environmental Quality. He has also contributed to the 5th World Congress on Disaster Management with a study on lessons learned from disaster governance and strategies to prevent future Chamoli-like disasters. Additionally, he has examined the social, cultural, and legal implications of protecting transgender rights in India, published in Our Heritage.

Asst. Prof. Wamane has also co-authored book chapters on “Health for All: A Case for Healthcare Setup for Transgender” and “Women at Crossfire: A Case of Ukraine Conflicts”. Through his research, field engagement, and publications, Asst. Prof. Gopal Wamane is committed to building inclusive, resilient communities and fostering informed public policy that addresses vulnerability, marginalization, and sustainable development.
