Overview

The Department of First Year Engineering at MIT World Peace University (MIT-WPU), Pune has been established to cater to the common foundational requirements of all engineering programmes. Irrespective of the programme chosen, every student undergoes a structured and carefully designed first-year curriculum that builds strong foundations in mathematics, sciences, computing, and core engineering principles. At the Department of First Year Engineering, we strive to make the first year a smooth and supportive transition phase, helping students confidently adapt to university-level engineering studies. We aim to inculcate engineering aptitude by shifting their approach from theoretical science learning to applied engineering education.

Department of First Year Engineering Laboratories

The Department houses 20+ well-equipped laboratories, including simulation tools and virtual labs. Additionally, all Central Research & Development facilities, Innovation Labs, and Centres of Excellence are accessible to first-year engineering students.

Highlights

  • Provide a smooth academic and emotional transition from school-level learning to engineering education.
  • Establish strong conceptual foundations in mathematics, sciences, computing, and the fundamentals of engineering.
  • Cultivate logical thinking, curiosity, critical thinking, and adaptability rather than rote learning.
  • Promote interdisciplinary exposure, ethical values, and teamwork from the very first year.
  • Create a student-centric, supportive, and outcome-oriented framework for an enhanced academic experience.

FAQs

First-year students are supported through a smooth transition from school-level learning to engineering education with induction activities, mentoring, and continuous academic engagement. Various technical, skill-development, and collaborative activities help build confidence, communication, problem-solving abilities, and professional readiness.

The University ensures student safety and discipline through regular monitoring, faculty supervision, and a secure campus environment. A structured mentor-mentee system, including class teachers and individual mentors, provides continuous academic and personal support.

Key topics include fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer, chemical process design, environmental engineering, energy systems, and biochemical engineering. These foundational areas prepare you for diverse roles in the chemical engineering field.

Parents can monitor their child's academic progress through the ERP system, attendance records, assessments, parent-teacher meetings, and regular interactions with class teachers, subject teachers, and mentors.

Students are encouraged to participate in technical clubs, research projects, innovation labs, conferences, hackathons, competitions, and other experiential learning activities to enhance their technical and professional competencies.

Yes, remedial classes are conducted within the academic timetable to support students who require additional academic assistance.

Students have access to well-equipped laboratories, libraries, clubs, co-curricular activities, and guidance programmes that support their holistic development beyond academics.

Head Of School Message

Mr. Lorem IspumHOS, WPU

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.
