About KAPILA Scheme

KAPILA (Kalam Program for IP Literacy and Awareness) is a flagship initiative by the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell (MIC) and AICTE, designed to promote intellectual property (IP) awareness and facilitate patent filing in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across India. The scheme is named in honour of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, reflecting his vision of fostering a culture of innovation and protecting creative ideas among students and faculty.

Objective

  • To create widespread awareness about the importance of intellectual property rights (IPR) and patent filing among students and faculty in HEIs.
  • To recognize and support innovations and best practices in educational institutions.
  • To establish a robust IP filing ecosystem, encouraging systematic protection of new ideas, research, and innovations with national and global relevance.

Role of IIC in KAPILA

The Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) at MIT-WPU plays a crucial role in implementing the KAPILA scheme by:

  • Raising Awareness: Organizing workshops, seminars, and training sessions on IP literacy and patent filing processes for students and faculty.
  • Facilitating Patent Filing: Assisting innovators in preparing, submitting, and tracking patent applications, and guiding them through the KAPILA funding process.
  • Building Ecosystem: Strengthening the institutional innovation ecosystem by encouraging more students and faculty to protect their inventions and research outcomes.
