Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.)

Programme Overview

The flagship programme at the Hafeez Contractor School of Architecture is the Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.), a five-year full-time professional degree designed to develop future-ready architects.

The curriculum is strictly governed by the Council of Architecture (CoA) and aligned with NEP 2020, ensuring a balance of design excellence, technical expertise, and ethical practice. The programme follows a studio-centric pedagogy, where learning is immersive, hands-on, and project-driven.

The academic journey is structured in phases:

  • Foundation Years: Building core design, visualisation, and conceptual skills
  • Core Professional Years: Integration of structure, services, sustainability, and technology
  • Final Phase :Mandatory practical training (internship) and a research-driven architectural thesis

With a strong focus on digital mastery, sustainability, and interdisciplinary collaboration, the programme prepares students to lead in a rapidly evolving built environment.

FAQs

An Architect studies a client's space requirements and the site's context, then designs spaces and structures that meet those requirements by balancing functional, technical and aesthetic considerations.
Architects visualise spaces and structures and communicate their ideas through drawings, models and walkthroughs. They work closely with consultants such as structural engineers and services consultants (plumbing, drainage, electrical, HVAC) to ensure the design functions efficiently. Architects also prepare construction drawings and details, support the tendering process, and supervise construction at key stages on site.
An Architect's role combines Office work (design, drawing, and consultant coordination) with Field work (site studies and supervision).

Architecture graduates have strong career prospects and can pursue many paths beyond classical practice.
Popular specialisations for further study and practice include Urban Design, Landscape Architecture, Architectural Conservation, Building Engineering and Management, Digital Architecture, Environmental Architecture, Interior Design, Sustainable Design, Housing, Parametric Design, Urban Planning, Environmental Planning, Construction Management, Traditional Indian Knowledge Systems, Architectural History, Transportation Planning, Computer Applications, and Energy-efficient Architecture, among others.
Beyond classical practice or working at architecture firms, many graduates also build careers in academics and research.

After completing the degree, graduates must register with the Council of Architecture (COA), the statutory body responsible for issuing the license to practice.
