Ph.D. in Law

I. Eligibility Criterion for admission to the Ph.D. Programme

1. Candidates who have completed any of the following are eligible to seek admission to the Ph.D. in Law Programme:

• An LL.M./Master’s Degree in Law after completion of a recognised LL.B. (3- Year) or Integrated Law Degree such as B.A. LL.B., B.B.A. LL.B., B.Com. LL.B., B.Sc. LL.B., B.L.S. LL.B., or an equivalent recognised Law degree; or
• An LL.M./Master’s Degree in Law or an equivalent postgraduate qualification in Law recognised by the appropriate statutory/regulatory body; or
• A Master’s Degree in a relevant/allied discipline, where the proposed doctoral research has a substantial interface with Law, subject to fulfilment of the programme-specific eligibility requirements of the School of Law and MIT-WPU.
• Candidates applying through the above routes should have secured at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade, subject to applicable relaxation under UGC and MIT-WPU norms.

2. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS), and other categories as prescribed by the UGC from time to time.

3. Reservation shall be applicable to Maharashtra domicile candidates, subject to submission of the necessary reservation documents before the interview. Candidates from outside Maharashtra shall be considered under the Open Category, in accordance with the applicable MIT-WPU admission policy.

II. Selection Process for the admission to the Ph.D. program

Ph.D. Entrance Test

Candidates satisfying the eligibility criteria shall be called to appear for the Ph.D. Entrance Test conducted by MIT-WPU, subject to applicable exemptions under the current University admission rules.

Qualifying marks: 50%. Relaxation to 45% shall be allowed for eligible candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/Differently-Abled/EWS and other applicable categories, in accordance with prescribed norms.

Interview / Viva-Voce

Candidates qualifying the entrance test shall be called for an Interview/Viva-Voce conducted by the University.

For candidates possessing applicable NET/JRF/SET/ qualifications, the selection procedure/exemption should be stated exactly as provided in MIT-WPU's current admission notification/policy.

Selection & Provisional Admission

Recommended candidates shall be intimated through email and offered provisional admission to the Ph.D. Programme. Eligibility at the application stage is provisional and is subject to verification of academic qualifications, educational documents, reservation/category documents (where applicable), and other prescribed admission requirements.

Mere eligibility to participate in the selection process does not guarantee admission to the Ph.D. Programme.

Coursework & Confirmation

Ph.D. admission shall be confirmed after successful completion of the prescribed coursework with 55% marks or above, in accordance with applicable UGC and MIT-WPU norms.

Full-Time Ph.D. & Stipend

Candidates joining the Ph.D. Programme in full-time mode may be provided a stipend in accordance with applicable MIT-WPU norms, subject to fulfilment of the prescribed conditions.

Continuation in the Programme

Continued registration shall be subject to compliance with applicable UGC Regulations, MIT-WPU Ph.D. Regulations and University academic and research requirements. Appropriate action, including cancellation of admission/registration, may be taken in cases such as misconduct, unsatisfactory progress, absence from two consecutive Progress Seminars, failure in prescribed examinations/requirements, fabricated educational or reservation documents, ineligibility, plagiarism, or other violations of research integrity and academic ethics, subject to applicable University procedures.

Maternity/Child Care Leave

Female candidates may be provided Maternity Leave/Child Care Leave for up to 240 days in the entire duration of Ph.D. programme.
