MIT-WPU Hosts International Conference on the Socio-Legal Dimensions of Artificial Intelligence

The School of Law at MIT World Peace University (MIT-WPU), Pune, successfully organised the International Conference on Socio-Legal Intricacies of Artificial Intelligence (ICSLIAI-2026) on 13–14 February 2026. The two-day conference brought together eminent academicians, legal scholars, industry experts, policymakers, researchers, and students to deliberate on the legal, ethical, social, and regulatory implications of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The conference commenced with inaugural addresses by Dr. Santosh Aghav, Dean, School of Law, and Dr. Vikrant Yadav, Conference Convener, who highlighted the growing need for interdisciplinary approaches to AI governance. Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Jonathan Kolieb, Director, Business and Human Rights Centre, RMIT University, Australia, emphasised the importance of robust global governance frameworks to ensure accountability, human rights, and responsible AI development.

A keynote panel on "AI, Society and Law" explored critical issues including AI governance, algorithmic bias, transparency, accountability, and the legal implications of emerging technologies. Technical sessions further examined themes such as AI and privacy, criminal justice, intellectual property rights, liability, accountability, and data governance, encouraging meaningful dialogue on balancing technological innovation with legal and ethical safeguards.

The second day focused on AI accountability, explainability, and practical governance, featuring renowned experts from leading academic institutions who discussed transparency in AI systems, liability in AI-generated content, AI in healthcare and legal practice, and improving access to justice through technology. Speakers unanimously stressed that AI must remain human-centric, transparent, and accountable.

The conference concluded with a valedictory session featuring Dr. Dilip Ukey, Vice Chancellor, Maharashtra National Law University (MNLU), Mumbai, who reflected on emerging concerns surrounding privacy, surveillance, algorithmic bias, and ethical AI governance. The event reaffirmed MIT-WPU's commitment to fostering interdisciplinary research and meaningful dialogue on the evolving relationship between law, technology, and society.
