MIT-WPU Hosts 5th International Symposium on Law & Peace 2025

The School of Law at MIT World Peace University (MIT-WPU), Pune, successfully organised the 5th International Symposium on Law & Peace (ISLP) 2025 on 22–23 November 2025 at the Swami Vivekananda Auditorium. Centred on the theme, "Role of Law to Promote the Culture of Peace," the two-day international symposium brought together eminent judges, senior advocates, policymakers, academicians, legal professionals, industry experts, researchers, and students from India and abroad to deliberate on the transformative role of law in fostering peace, justice, and sustainable development.

The symposium commenced with the World Peace Prayer, reflecting MIT-WPU's philosophy of integrating education with peace and humanitarian values. Addressing the gathering, Dr. R. M. Chitnis, Vice Chancellor, MIT-WPU, reaffirmed the University's commitment to nurturing socially responsible legal professionals. Dr. Santosh Aghav, Dean, School of Law, highlighted the symposium's vision of promoting dialogue on peace-building through law, while Dr. Rahul V. Karad, Managing Trustee, MAEER's MIT Pune and Executive President, MIT-WPU, emphasised the importance of value-based legal education. The inaugural session concluded with the Presidential Address by Prof. Dr. Vishwanath D. Karad, Founder & Chief Patron, MAEER's MIT Pune, President, MIT-WPU, UNESCO Chair Holder, and Creator of the World Peace Dome, who encouraged legal professionals to integrate justice, ethics, and spirituality into legal practice.

The symposium featured distinguished speakers from the judiciary, legal fraternity, academia, and industry. Among the notable dignitaries were Justice Ambadas Joshi, Former Judge, Bombay High Court; Adv. Ved Prakash Sharma, Co-Chairman, Bar Council of India; Dr. Harpreet Kaur, Vice-Chancellor, National Law University, Jodhpur; Adv. Dr. Lalit Bhasin, Former President, Bar Association of India; and Adv. Abhay Nevagi, Managing Partner, Abhay Nevagi & Associates.

Four plenary sessions explored contemporary legal issues across diverse domains, including Cross-Border Trade & Investment, Alternative Dispute Resolution, Humanitarian, Refugee and International Law, and Law, Technology & Healthcare. Discussions focused on international commerce, mediation and arbitration, refugee protection, humanitarian law, digital governance, cyber law, mental health, privacy, and the ethical use of technology, offering participants valuable insights into emerging legal challenges and collaborative solutions.

The symposium also served as a vibrant platform for meaningful dialogue among legal professionals, policymakers, researchers, academicians, and students. Interactive discussions, expert deliberations, and networking opportunities reinforced the importance of law as a catalyst for justice, conflict resolution, ethical governance, and sustainable peace.

Through the successful organisation of the 5th International Symposium on Law & Peace 2025, MIT-WPU reaffirmed its commitment to advancing legal education, interdisciplinary research, and global collaboration. The symposium strengthened the University's vision of nurturing ethically grounded, globally competent, and socially responsible legal professionals dedicated to heralding law as an instrument for peace and harmony.
