Dr. Nitin Khedkar

Dr. Nitin Khedkar is presently working as Professor of Design and HR Director at MIT World Peace University (MIT-WPU), bringing over 24 years of academic and administrative experience in mechanical engineering, research management, and institutional development. Throughout his distinguished career, he has made significant contributions to engineering education, advanced manufacturing research, and academic quality assurance at leading universities in India.

His areas of expertise include additive manufacturing, surface engineering, vibration analysis, and automation, complemented by a strong record of industry collaboration and innovation-driven teaching.

Dr. Khedkar earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Symbiosis International University in 2016. He has published over 60 research papers in reputed international journals (SCI, Scopus, WoS), holds eight patents, and has successfully completed multiple funded projects, including those supported by DRDO, universities’ funding, and various funding agencies.

At the Symbiosis Institute of Technology, he served as Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Deputy Director (Administration), where he played a pivotal role in academic strategy, institutional accreditation (NAAC, NBA, AICTE), and infrastructure development. He spearheaded key initiatives such as the first-ever six-month compulsory internship program, a dual-degree collaboration with SIBM, and a national-level skill development program with the Bajaj Group, leading to the establishment of 14 state-of-the-art Centre of Excellence (CoEs) worth ₹16 crore.

He has been instrumental in developing the first-ever Advanced Manufacturing Technology (AMT) Lab at SIT, equipped for non-conventional, advanced, and digital manufacturing research. He has also been instrumental in establishing 5G Lab under the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s Scheme with the Ministry of Telecommunication, Government of India, Makers Lab supported by Infosys (₹5 crore donation), and the AICTE-funded Idea Lab.

He has provided consultancy to various universities, enabling them to file 51 patents in just 25 days. He has also organized industry conclaves across all SIT departments, attracting over 200 industry HR and technical officers, and more than eight international and national conferences. His sustained focus on industry-academia collaboration has resulted in over 90 MoUs with leading industrial partners.

Dr. Khedkar’s leadership extends to quality assurance and institutional excellence, having served on several key committees at Symbiosis International University, which contributed to earn an A++ NAAC grade in all three cycles and NBA accreditation to various department. A member of several professional bodies including SAE, IEEE, IEI, ISTE, and ADI. He has chaired national and international conferences, reviewed for leading journals, and guided numerous Ph.D., M.Tech., and B. Des. and B.Tech. scholars. He is currently supervising four Ph.D. candidates, while three have successfully completed their research under his guidance.

His vision continues to advance a transdisciplinary, industry-integrated approach to engineering education and research excellence, aligning with India’s evolving innovation and industrial landscape.
