Dr. Anup A. Kale
Professor & Dean
Prof. (Dr.) Anup A. Kale is an accomplished academic leader, research strategist, and translational scientist with over two decades of experience spanning higher education, biotechnology, healthcare innovation, bioengineering, bioimaging, nanobiotechnology, and diagnostic technologies. As Dean of the School of Science & Environmental Studies at MIT World Peace University (MIT-WPU), he provides strategic leadership in advancing research excellence, academic innovation, industry engagement, and interdisciplinary education.
He has played a pivotal role in strengthening the University's research ecosystem by establishing high-end laboratories, fostering academia-industry collaborations, and creating innovation-driven platforms that bridge scientific discovery with societal and commercial impact. He has expanded universities research capabilities through high- value partnerships with government agencies, healthcare organizations, global technology leaders, and industry stakeholders. He has founded Revvity-MIT-WPU Centre for Bioimaging Technologies & Innovation, a Centre of Excellence focused on advanced imaging, analytical technologies, translational research, and next- generation healthcare solutions.
His work focuses on moving science from the laboratory to real-world use. Dr. Kale has secured and managed competitive research grants and sponsored projects from prestigious agencies including DST, DBT, ICMR, DRDO, and industry partners. His research has contributed to the development of innovative diagnostic platforms, biosensing technologies, and healthcare products with significant translational and commercialization potential. He has authored more than 30 publications, holds three patents, and contributed to nutraceutical formulations that reached the market. He is also co-founder of a S&T start-up incubated at MIT-WPU.
Before MIT-WPU, Prof. Kale held faculty and principal investigator positions at COEP Technological University and the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT), Pune. He completed postdoctoral research at the Singapore Bioimaging Consortium (A*STAR) and National University of Singapore, MINT Center (Center for Materials for Information Technology), University of Alabama, USA, and the National Chemical Laboratory and National Centre for Cell Science, Pune, as a DBT Postdoctoral Fellow. These experiences have enabled him to develop global collaborations and contribute to cutting-edge advances in biomedical sciences, nanotechnology, and imaging technologies.
Dr. Kale has built and mentored multidisciplinary teams comprising faculty members, researchers, doctoral scholars, and industry collaborators, while providing strategic oversight on biosafety, ethics, research governance, and institutional development.
Among his notable achievements are the establishment of innovation and commercialization pathways for healthcare technologies, co-founding of a biotechnology startup, development of research products and patents, and leadership of teams recognized on international innovation platforms, including the iGEM International Science and Innovation Challenge.
At MIT-WPU, Dr. Kale is committed to nurturing a future-ready scientific ecosystem that integrates research, industry engagement, entrepreneurship, and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence. In addition to MIT-WPU’s strong undergraduate, postgraduate and Ph.D. science programmes in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Mathematics & Statistics, Applied Statistics, Industrial Polymer Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physics, and Environmental Science, he actively promotes interdisciplinary education and innovation-led learning that prepares graduates for leadership in academia, industry, and society.
