Bio

Dr. Vijayapandi Pandy is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the School of Health Sciences & Technology, MIT World Peace University, Pune, Maharashtra, India. He obtained his B. Pharm degree with first-class honors in 1997 and completed his M. Pharm in Pharmacology in 2000, securing the first rank at SCS College of Pharmacy, Harapanahalli, Karnataka. He earned his Ph.D. in Psychopharmacology from the prestigious Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani.

Dr. Pandy’s research primarily focuses on the psychopharmacological evaluation of psychoactive natural substances for the discovery of novel therapeutic agents to treat substance use disorders, employing validated animal models. He is a life member of several professional bodies, including the Tamil Nadu Pharmacy Council, the Indian Pharmacological Society, the Laboratory Animal Scientist’s Association (LASA, India), the Association of Pharmaceutical Teachers of India (APTI), the Antiviral Research Society (AVRS), and the Indian Pharmacy Graduate Association.

With more than 25 years of teaching and research experience across India, Malaysia, Libya, and Ethiopia, Dr. Pandy has authored 76 research and review articles in peer-reviewed journals and contributed two book chapters. Notably, two of his publications were cited in the World Health Organization’s 44th Report on Drug Dependence. He serves as an Editorial Board Member of Scientific Reports (Nature) and Frontiers in Pharmacology, and acts as a reviewer for several national and international journals. He has delivered invited talks as an eminent speaker at several national and international conferences. He has received multiple research grants, including BKP, UMRG, and HIR-MOHE from Malaysia.

In November 2022, Dr. Pandy successfully completed a research project (CRG/2018/000813) as Principal Investigator, funded by the Department of Science and Technology–Science and Engineering Research Board (DST-SERB), Government of India, with a grant of ₹34 lakhs. He is also a recipient of the Mahatma Gandhi Samman Award, conferred by the NRI Welfare Society, Bangkok, Thailand, on 27 May 2017. To date, he has successfully supervised six Ph.D. and fifteen M. Pharm research projects and is currently guiding two Ph.D. and three M. Pharm scholars.
