Bio
Prof. Dr. Suman Devadula, is a passionate advocate of design-led innovation and its role in advancing sustainability across institutions. With over thirteen years of distinguished experience in the design industry and academia, Dr. Devadula brings exceptional expertise in integrating technology, research, and sustainability by design.
Prior to joining MIT-WPU in this stint, Dr. Devadula served as Associate Professor, and in leadership positions like Head of Design and Dep. Director at JAIN School of Design, Media and Creative Arts, Bengaluru and also as Research Co-ordinator for Faculty of Creativity and Design. He led curriculum design, program management, and Outcome-Based Education (OBE) initiatives across several UG, PG and PhD programmes. Earlier to this, he served as the founding Head of School at MIT-WPU School of Design, Pune during 2018-2022. His corporate experience includes working as an Industrial Designer at John Deere Technology Centre India, where he managed global design and engineering projects across the U.S., Europe, and Asia.
Prof. Devadula holds a Ph.D. in Sustainability by Design from IISc Bangalore, an M.Des. in Product Design from the Department of Design and Manufacturing (formerly CPDM), IISc Bangalore, a B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from JNTU Hyderabad, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Re- designing Human Rights from IIHR, New Delhi.
He has been recognised on numerous national and international platforms for his impactful contributions to design research, sustainability, and to design education. His students have consistently excelled under his mentorship, securing accolades in prominent design competitions globally. An academic leader, Dr. Devadula has served as Chairperson and Board Member in various academic bodies, contributing to the development of design curriculum at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels.
His research interests span design, cognition, and sustainability, with over twenty-five articles in reputed journals of direct impact to design education and the human condition in several national and international journals and conferences. He holds several design registrations and published patents, individually and collaboratively.
