Bio

Sanjeev Kumar Shangary, Ph.D., is a Professor in the School of Consciousness at the Dr. Vishwanath Karad MIT World Peace University (MIT-WPU), Pune, India with over 25 years of cumulative experience in academics, research, and industry. He obtained a Master’s degree in Biology (Molecular Biology and Biochemistry) and a Ph.D. degree in Life Sciences, both from the Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar, India. He received post-doctoral fellowship from the Centre for Cellular & Molecular Biology (CCMB), Hyderabad, India. This was followed by two post-doctoral research associate (RA) positions from the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, USA, where he, initially, focused his research on understanding and delineating the cell signaling pathways triggered during ionizing radiation-induced DNA damage. Later, he investigated the impact of the synthetic peptides, derived from the Bcl-2 family proteins, on the chemo-resistant leukemia. He, next, joined the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center, as a research faculty (Research Investigator and later promoted to Research Assistant Professor position), where he played an instrumental role in the discovery and pre-clinical development of a novel class of small-molecule inhibitors targeting the MDM2-p53 interaction for the treatment of cancer. Subsequently, he joined the R&D Oncology division of the Piramal Enterprises Ltd, Mumbai, India as an Assistant Director, and led a team on several cancer drug discovery programs. Prior to joining the MIT-WPU, he was an Associate director and team lead of the Drug Repurposing vertical at the Excelra Knowledge Solutions, Hyderabad, India. He was the recipient of the prestigious Young Investigator Award of the Melanoma Research Alliance (MRA, USA) and a research grant, as Principal Investigator, from the MRA. He also played a role as a co-investigator on the grants funded by the National Institute of Health, USA, and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Foundation, USA. He has served as a reviewer for several journals. He is a co-author on over 30 original research articles/reviews/book chapters and co-inventor on several patents.
