Dr. Nilesh Bajad
Assistant Professor
Bio
Dr. Nilesh Bajad completed his Doctoral degree from the Indian Institute of Technology (BHU), Varanasi, under the Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship (PMRF), India’s most prestigious doctoral fellowship program. He also earned his Master’s degree from IIT (BHU), where he developed a strong foundation in Pharmaceutical Chemistry.
His Ph.D. research, titled “Exploring the diagnostic and therapeutic potential of rationally designed and synthesized novel multifunctional ligands for Alzheimer’s disease,” focused on the design, synthesis, and biological evaluation of multifunctional small molecules integrating both therapeutic and diagnostic (theranostic) functionalities for Alzheimer’s disease (AD). The work aimed to develop novel agents capable of crossing the blood–brain barrier, detecting amyloid aggregates, and modulating key enzymatic and oxidative pathways implicated in AD pathogenesis.
Dr. Bajad possesses experience in organic synthesis, biophysical and biochemical assays, cell-based evaluations, assay development, and animal model studies. His research lies at the interface of medicinal chemistry, drug discovery, and neuroscience, driven by a strong motivation to translate chemical innovations into promising biological and therapeutic outcomes. His research findings have been published in leading journals such as ACS Chemical Neuroscience, Talanta, Bioorganic Chemistry, International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, and European Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, reflecting his significant contributions to neurotherapeutics and medicinal chemistry. His long-term vision focuses on neuroscience-driven drug discovery, integrating chemistry and biology to design innovative theranostic and therapeutic agents for neurodegenerative diseases.
