Dr. Kiran Prakash Shejale

Bio

Dr. Kiran P. Shejale is a renowned researcher, innovator, and educator in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Bioengineering with a Ph.D. from IIT Jodhpur, he also holds an M.Tech. in Nanotechnology from IIT Roorkee and a B.E. in Biotechnology from Shivaji University.

With over 12 years of cutting-edge research and academic excellence, Dr. Shejale has made ground-breaking contributions in energy harvesting-storage, electrochemical systems, nanomaterials, catalysis, biosensors, biomaterials and sustainable water-air treatment technologies. His postdoctoral research at POSTECH, Kyungpook National University (South Korea), and IIT Bombay has led to pioneering developments in ionic polymer coatings, next-generation batteries, functional nanomaterials and electrochemical interfaces. His work has been internationally recognized, with over 40 publications in top-tier journals, 6 patents (India & US), 2 book chapters, and his research featured on the cover of Energy Technology Journal.

A recipient of numerous prestigious awards, including a Gold Medal & Best Paper Awards, Dr. Shejale has been honoured for his excellence in research and innovation. He has actively contributed to 20+ international conferences, symposiums and workshops, serving as a session chair, keynote speaker and judge. His technology-driven approach has enabled real-world applications of his research in renewable energy and environmental engineering.

Beyond research, Dr. Shejale is a dedicated educator and mentor, having trained undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral students at premier institutions. His ability to bridge academic knowledge with industrial innovation makes him a transformative leader in engineering education. Dr. Shejale is also an active contributor to the global scientific community, serving as a Topic Editor for Frontiers in Materials and a reviewer for high-impact journals, including Materials Letters, Solar Energy Materials & Solar Cells, and Energy Technology. He is a member of prestigious organizations such as the American Chemical Society (ACS), Materials Research Society (MRS), and Electrochemical Society (ECS), strengthening the scientific and industrial advancements in energy and materials science.

Research Areas

1. Energy Storage & Conversion – Development of high-performance lithium-ion and solid-state batteries, supercapacitors, and fuel cells with advanced electrode materials and electrocatalysts.

2. Nanomaterials & Functional Coatings – Synthesis of functional nanostructures, carbon nano-assemblies, quantum dots, and ionic polymer films for energy, catalysis, and environmental applications.

3. Solar Energy & Photocatalysis – Design of dye-sensitized (DSSC) and perovskite solar cells, along with nanostructured catalysts for solar-driven hydrogen production and water purification.

4. Electrochemical Systems & Smart Interfaces – Development of bioelectrochemical interfaces, conductive polymers, and heterostructured materials for sensors, energy devices and electrocatalysis.

5. Water Treatment & Environmental Sustainability – Advanced membrane-integrated nanomaterials, activated carbon and photocatalytic processes for water purification, CO₂ capture and pollution control.
