Bio

Dr. Dattatreya Tripathy is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Dr. Vishwanath Karad MIT World Peace University, Pune. He is a structural engineering researcher with a strong focus on masonry structures, seismic performance, structural strengthening and rehabilitation, sustainable construction materials, and resilient infrastructure. His research combines experimental investigations, analytical modelling, and numerical simulations to develop practical and sustainable solutions for improving the safety and durability of existing structures.

Dr. Tripathy holds a Ph.D. and M.Tech. in Structural/Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Patna. His research contributions include the development and investigation of Steel Wire Reinforced Cementitious Matrix (SWRCM) systems for strengthening unreinforced masonry, seismic evaluation of masonry structures, and analytical and numerical assessment of masonry walls with and without openings. His published research includes 7 SCI-indexed papers, 12 Scopus-indexed papers, 11 international conference papers, and 6 book chapters. He is also the author of two undergraduate-level books in Civil Engineering.

His research and academic contributions have received recognition through publications in reputed international journals and conferences. Dr. Tripathy has received several awards and recognitions for his academic, research, and teaching contributions. His major professional recognitions include the Er. L. N. Barik Memorial Award (2026) and the Er. Nanda Nandan Das Award (2025) from the Institution of Engineers (India), Odisha State Centre. In 2024, he received the John Smeaton Inspiring International Education Excellence Award in Structural Engineering from the IMRF Institute of Higher Education & Research, India.

His research excellence was further recognised through the Outstanding Paper Award for Best Graduate Student as First Author at the 14th North American Masonry Conference, Omaha, USA, in 2023. He also received a Grant-in-Aid Award for the 17th World Conference on Earthquake Engineering, Sendai, Japan, in 2021. During his postgraduate and doctoral studies, he received Institute Fellowship Grants from the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, for pursuing his M.Tech. and Ph.D. He was also awarded the Institute Proficiency Award for the Best M.Tech. Project at IIT Patna in 2017.
