Bio
Dr. Brijesh Kumar is a developmental biologist with extensive research experience in genome engineering, including CRISPR/Cas, animal models (chicken and zebrafish), and Drug/Target Discovery technologies.
After completing his master's thesis on developmental metabolomics in chicken embryos at IIT Kanpur, Dr. Kumar obtained his PhD on pancreatic beta cell function and regeneration, mitigating diabetes using a zebrafish model from the Max Planck Institute for Heart and Lung Research, Bad Nauheim, Germany. His work led to the identification of several targets and drugs holding potential for therapeutic interventions. Scholastically, Dr. Kumar was selected for developmental biology training at the Marine Biological Laboratory, Woods Hole, Massachusetts, USA, where he witnessed the Nobel laureates and learnt state-of-the-art molecular tools and techniques from world leaders in the field. For his postdoctoral training in disease modelling for Congenital Disorder of Glycosylation and Heart Failure, he worked at Greenwood Genetic Center, South Carolina, USA, Heidelberg University Hospital, Germany, and Duke University, USA, where he contributed to projects focused on molecular genetics, functional genomics, and prime editing. Dr. Kumar has actively supervised laboratory courses, led journal clubs, and mentored researchers, fostering scientific curiosity and technical excellence. Throughout, Dr. Kumar has presented his research at numerous national and international conferences and won several travel and poster awards.
Dr. Kumar's research interests focus on leveraging genome engineering and high- throughput technologies, including omics, to uncover molecular mechanisms underlying disease and develop innovative strategies for therapeutic intervention.
