Walk for Peace ‘A Global Commitment at MIT-WPU’ on International Day of Peace
MIT-WPU, a leading educational institution in India, has always played a pivotal role in fostering peace through various initiatives for national and global audiences. As told by Mahatma Gandhi, "Be the change you want to see in the world”, MIT World Peace University has always set standards that not only inspire but also instill peace as a leading virtue for an evolved society.
International Day of Peace: A Background
On the proposal of the United Nations General Assembly in 1981, the International Day of Peace was first observed on 21st September 1982. This day marked a global observance dedicated to promoting peace throughout the world and encouraging people across the globe to build a culture of peace.
Peace Walk@MIT-WPU Campus
With a theme of “Cultivating a Culture of Peace” as proposed by the United Nations for 2024, MIT-WPU organized a Peace Walk in its Kothrud Campus. The Peace Walk started at 6:30 am on 21st September, 2024 in the serene campus of MIT-WPU to promote peace and non-violence. All the dignitaries including Prof Milind Patre(Associate Dean, Dept. Of Peace Studies), Dr Priyankar Upadhyaya(Senior Advisor & Distinguished Professor, MIT-WPU), Dr Bhagwat Biradi(Program Director, Dept of Peace Studies), Dr. P G Dhanve(Director Sports and Gymkhana), Vilas Kathure, Avinash Kachare, Ishwar C Parmar(Chairman and MD, Ishwar Parmar group, Founder- Director, Jeevan Sudhar Foundation) and the institute's workforce joined this walk. Also, the students of all the departments participated enthusiastically to promote this global initiative and be a part of this change.
This year's initiative aimed at raising awareness about the significance of both personal and global peace, while also emphasizing the importance of physical and mental well-being. It was a symbolic and meaningful step toward promoting mindfulness and creating a peaceful and healthy society. With this initiative, MIT-WPU encouraged everyone to be a beacon of peace and light, fostering empathy, understanding, and unity among our communities and beyond.
