Shaping the Future of Sports: MIT-WPU’s 2nd Advisory Board Meeting

The 2nd Sports Advisory Board Meeting successfully commenced on 9th June 2025 at the Dronacharya Building, MIT-WPU, Pune. The event brought together eminent sports leaders, accomplished experts, and university officials dedicated to elevating the standard of sports on campus.
The session opened with a welcome address and insightful opening remarks from Dr. Rahul V. Karad, Executive President, MIT-WPU and Chairman, Sports Advisory Board. The board reviewed ongoing sports initiatives and discussed comprehensive strategies for athlete and coach development, including motivational talks by Olympians and Arjuna Awardees, and workshops on injury prevention, sports psychology, and nutrition.
A key outcome was the introduction of a 5% Sports Quota for admissions, opening new opportunities for talented athletes at state, national, and international levels. The board also introduced supportive policies for student-athletes, such as enhanced attendance flexibility, financial incentives and sports kit.
Further, the board approved partnerships with both government and private organisations to incorporate sports education into the academic curriculum, offering elective certifications in sports sciences and fitness. The advisory board also finalised the sports calendar for the 2025-26 academic year. Additionally, the eligibility requirements for coaches were updated to maintain high standards in sports management and coaching excellence.
