Rural Immersion Program – SY Mechanical Engineering
Jan 21, 2026
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at MIT-WPU organized a three-day Rural Immersion Program for Second Year Mechanical Engineering students at Ravangaon village. The program aimed to provide experiential learning by immersing students in rural life and fostering awareness of sustainable practices, governance, and socio-economic challenges.
During their stay, students lived in village conditions and actively engaged with the local community. Key activities included visits to the Gram Panchayat, poultry farms, Zilla Parishad school, and village medical facilities. Students also participated in Shramdaan at the Shirsai Temple and conducted household surveys covering over 30 homes to understand rural living conditions.
The program offered insights into agriculture-based livelihoods, rural infrastructure, education systems, and healthcare facilities. Students observed strong community collaboration while identifying areas for improvement such as waste management, sanitation, and healthcare access.
The immersion experience significantly enhanced students’ empathy, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities while strengthening their understanding of real-world engineering and societal challenges. The initiative reflects the department’s commitment to holistic, experiential, and socially responsible engineering education.
