MIT-WPU Successfully Hosts 90th Annual Conference of the Indian Mathematical Society

In a groundbreaking achievement, MIT World Peace University (MIT-WPU) became the first private university to host the prestigious 90th Annual Conference of the Indian Mathematical Society (IMS). The four-day international conference, held from December 23rd to 26th, 2024, transformed the Department of Mathematics and Statistics into a vibrant hub of mathematical innovation and discourse.

Distinguished luminaries graced the event, including Prof. Rajat Moona, Director of IIT Gandhinagar and former Director General of C-DAC, who delivered an illuminating keynote address as the 'Guest of Honour'. His presentation expertly wove together mathematics' crucial role in pioneering fields - from artificial intelligence and space exploration to climate modelling and vaccine development. The conference was further enriched by the presence of Prof. Madhu Raka, President of IMS, and Dr. Vijay P Bhatkar, Padma Bhushan awardee and former Chancellor of Nalanda University.

Prof. Dr. Vishwanath D. Karad, Founder-President of MIT-WPU, articulated a compelling vision of mathematics as the fundamental bridge connecting science, philosophy, and innovation. This perspective was complemented by IMS General Secretary Prof. M. M. Shikare's comprehensive overview of the society's initiatives in advancing mathematical education and research across India.

The collaboration between IMS, the National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM), and SERB India brought together leading mathematicians, researchers, educators, and students in an unprecedented gathering of minds. Through engaging discussions and presentations, participants explored mathematics' transformative potential in addressing global challenges, particularly in sustainability, artificial intelligence, and space exploration.

MIT-WPU's leadership, including our Executive President Dr. Rahul Karad, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. R. M. Chitnis and Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr. Milind Pande, emphasised the conference's significance in fostering mathematical excellence and innovation, marking a new chapter in India's mathematical journey.
