MIT-WPU Faculty Conducts Design Thinking Training and Innovation Workshops in Lucknow and Kanpur

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at MIT World Peace University (MIT-WPU) highlights the outreach contribution of Dr. Ashish Haribhau Pawar, Assistant Professor, Mechanical Engineering, who served as a Faculty Resource Person for a series of Teacher Training Programmes and Student Innovation Workshops on “Design Thinking in Education” held in Lucknow and Kanpur on 12–13 August 2026.

The initiative focused on promoting design thinking as a structured approach to teaching, learning, innovation and real-world problem-solving. As part of the programme, specialised teacher training sessions on “Advancing Education through Design Innovations” were conducted for educators from Air Force School, Kanpur Cantt. and Seth M.R. Jaipuria School, Goel Campus, Lucknow. The sessions explored ways to integrate design thinking methodologies into classroom teaching, educational problem-solving and innovation-driven learning practices.

Alongside the teacher training programmes, Design Thinking and Innovation Workshops were conducted for more than 300 students of Classes XI and XII from Hudsons Girls School, Kanpur; DPS Lucknow; and Seth M.R. Jaipuria School, Lucknow. Through interactive activities and hands-on exercises, the workshops encouraged students to approach real-world challenges creatively and develop practical, user-focused solutions.

The sessions introduced participants to key principles and methodologies of Design Thinking, including empathy-driven problem identification, Define–Ideate–Prototype–Test, convergent and divergent thinking, creative problem-solving and collaborative innovation. Students engaged in group activities that helped them understand how ideas can be transformed into practical solutions while developing essential skills in teamwork, communication, creativity and critical thinking.

The outreach initiative enabled educators to explore innovative approaches to classroom learning while giving students an opportunity to experience the design thinking process firsthand. By connecting academic expertise with experiential learning and real-world problem-solving, the programme contributed to building a culture of innovation among both teachers and students.

The initiative reflects MIT-WPU’s commitment to educational excellence, innovation and meaningful societal engagement, while highlighting the role of faculty expertise in advancing knowledge, empowering learners and creating impact beyond the university campus.
