Civil Engineering Students Participate in International Immersion Programme in China


The Department of Civil Engineering at MIT-WPU, Pune successfully conducted an International Immersion Programme to China from 31 May to 6 June 2026, offering students valuable global exposure to advanced engineering practices, urban development, and infrastructure systems.

The seven-day programme covered Shanghai, Beijing, and Tianjin, combining academic learning, industry engagement, and cultural exploration. Students visited Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center, gaining insights into contemporary engineering education, sustainable urban planning, and smart city development.

An industry visit to the Volkswagen Manufacturing Facility provided exposure to modern manufacturing processes and industrial engineering practices. Students also explored key infrastructure systems, including the Yu Yuan Metro Station, China's extensive metro network, and its world-renowned high-speed rail system, observing innovative approaches to transportation and large-scale infrastructure development.

The programme further included visits to iconic landmarks such as the Great Wall of China, Tiananmen Square, the Beijing National Stadium (Bird's Nest), and notable urban districts in Tianjin, offering a broader understanding of China's architectural, cultural, and developmental landscape.

Through these experiences, students gained practical insights into sustainable urban design, transportation engineering, metro construction, and smart infrastructure development. The programme enhanced their global perspective, strengthened their understanding of contemporary engineering practices, and reinforced MIT-WPU's commitment to experiential learning and international exposure.
