A visit to Ravangaon Village, Daund
Jan 21, 2026
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at MIT World Peace University organized a three-day Rural Immersion Program from 21–23 January 2026 at Ravangaon village, Taluka Daund, District Pune, for 48 second-year Mechanical Engineering students (Division 1), accompanied by Dr. Sanjay Havaldar and Dr. Girish Barpande.
The initiative aimed to provide experiential learning by immersing students in rural life while fostering awareness of sustainability, governance, and socio-economic dynamics.
During the program, students experienced village life firsthand and actively engaged with the local community. Key activities included visits to the Gram Panchayat, poultry farms, Zilla Parishad school, and local healthcare facilities. Students also participated in Shramdaan at the Shirsai Temple and conducted household surveys across more than 30 homes to gain insights into rural living conditions.
The immersion offered valuable exposure to agriculture-based livelihoods, rural infrastructure, education systems, and healthcare services. Students observed strong community collaboration while also identifying areas for improvement, such as waste management, sanitation, and access to healthcare.
Overall, the experience significantly enhanced students’ empathy, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities, while deepening their understanding of real-world engineering and societal challenges. The program reflects the department’s commitment to holistic, experiential, and socially responsible engineering education.
