A visit to Naigaon Village, Satara
Mar 23, 2026
From 27th February to 1st March 2026, the Department of Education, School of Liberal Arts, MIT-WPU, Pune, organised a transformative three-day Rural Immersion Programme at Naigaon Village, Satara. A total of 78 B.Ed. students participated in this immersive learning experience.
The programme was designed to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and lived rural realities. Students engaged directly with the community, gaining first-hand insight into pressing issues such as educational inequity, healthcare accessibility, water conservation, sanitation, and sustainable development.
The three days were filled with purposeful, hands-on activities. Students performed street plays on women's empowerment, conducted awareness sessions in village schools, and led social rallies to amplify community consciousness. Shramdan — a collective cleanliness drive — was carried out with active participation. Students also conducted household surveys and visited key rural institutions, including the Gram Panchayat, Anganwadi centres, public health centres, and ration shops. Interactions with local entrepreneurs offered a ground-level understanding of grassroots governance and rural livelihoods.
Beyond academics, the programme cultivated essential life skills — leadership, critical thinking, teamwork, and community empathy. It reinforced the values of sustainability and social responsibility, encouraging students to think beyond the classroom.
The Rural Immersion Programme stood as a powerful testament to MIT-WPU's commitment to holistic, experiential education — one that connects India with Bharat and future educators with the communities they are meant to serve.
