Centre of Excellence-Technology and Visualization Centre-1
Tata Technologies as a company has focused on the Education sector to partner with key Universities and institutes to create industry-ready engineers that can be part of the global talent pool. These efforts are focused on improving the employability of fresh graduates by training them in the competencies required by the industry through simulated Industry environments and courses.
Tata Technologies follows a well-defined engagement process for partnering with MIT-WPU, Pune. The idea behind this process is to ensure that there is end-to-end support to the institute during the entire academic cycle. Tata Technologies will act as a knowledge partner in this initiative to support the institute.
Key Objectives
This programme focuses on developing employability skills, helping students get industry exposure while in college and research,
- To address the trained manpower needs of manufacturing segments by developing a cohesive and integrated framework of training based on the industry needs. Addressing this need is critical for enhancing the competitiveness of the industry in the globalized economy.
- To increase the employability of residents of the target areas through imparting skills in the above segments.
- To ensure that the scheme is so designed to cater to the wide range of skill sets required in various segments, while simultaneously ensuring sufficient flexibility to meet the dynamic needs of these segments over a period of the next five years.
- To ensure that students get access to the latest technologies and processes being used by Industry through highly specialized competency centres established in colleges / academic institutions.
Following will be the foremost roles played by Tata Technologies in the Joint Collaboration
- Industry Job requirement analysis and mapping of skills and competencies to Curriculum through Tata Technologies Consultancy and Advisory Services.
- Content development and delivery of industry-specialized courseware.
- Managing the operations of the industry-specialized centres set up by Tata Technologies.
- Providing access to students to Industry Subject matter experts (SME) for coaching.
- Providing Industry orientations and Industry Internships / Projects to students.
- Conducting online assessments and certifications on industry-specialized Courseware.
- Conducting Faculty development programmes and Train-The-Trainer programmes.
Facilities and Infrastructure
We have identified a set of Competency Centres for Engineering students with a focus on design and manufacturing. These centres comprise of the latest technologies and equipment used by manufacturing industries globally and setting up these centres at campus would enable access to students to these latest technologies. These centres also act as a base for delivering experiential trainings, live industry projects to students and serve as a research and innovation hub The overview of competency Centres is as below:
Technology and Visualization Centre
The Technology and Visualization Competency Centre will enable complete solutions from Concept Design to Virtual Build and beyond, using high-end Technology tools. This Competency centre will advance students’ knowledge making them conversant with the latest and future industry trends. This centre is loaded with the latest and most used technology tools for design, development, and analysis by major global OEMs. In this centre we provide high end Industrial workstations, which are loaded with Computer Aided Design, Computer Aided Manufacturing and Computer Aided Engineering through which students will be taught design & development techniques. Through this industrial environment, students will be able to work on real-life projects. This Competency Centre will enable complete solutions from Concept Design to Virtual Build and beyond, using high-end Technology tools.
Advance Manufacturing Engineering Competency Centre
Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) competency centre will provide complete manufacturing solutions using Advance Manufacturing Technologies such as Robotics, Integration of Digital Manufacturing with Physical Environment etc. Our pedagogical model is built on the principles of experiential learning. Learning in context is well-established as a highly effective method for students of all disciplines, but it is especially effective for the physical sciences. Our project teams mirror the workplace. The staff is immersed in not only meeting the technical needs of local industry but in learning to teach the different learning styles of diverse team members. Teams learn firsthand, in real-time, the importance of maximizing the team’s talent. This competency centre will be equipped with Robotic Cells, Robot programming, and fixtures for 2D, 3D paths.
Training Module (Design Thinking) in collaboration with Tata Technologies Experts
Technology and Visualization Centre-I organized one week training programme during 25 rd to 30 th November 2019 on the module “Design Thinking” specially arranged for post-graduate students in three batches (Each batch of 20 students and 4 faculty members from MIT-WPU) for first- and second-year M.Tech. students of 2019-20 batch from all three discipline of School of Mechanical Engineering. Mr. Harish Kumar (Sr. Engineer, Tata Technologies Ltd.) and Mr. Dhairyashil Desai (Sr. Engineer, Tata Technology Ltd.) conducted workshop on Design Thinking and hands-on experience on different industrial problem solutions. The students from UG and PG batches working on their academic project regularly using the facility of CAD Software available like CATIA, CAE software like NASTRAN-PATRAN, ADAMS.
Industry Training modules / Certifications
Tata Technologies would deliver the trainings through a mix of online and classroom sessions. The courseware will be delivered through Tata Technologies proprietary software i.GET.IT This also provides opportunity to the students to undertake online certifications and become certified professionals. By means of this approach note, Tata Technologies offers to collaborate with university to:
- Become a knowledge partner to the Institute to upgrade the Engineering courses being offered by the Institute
- Tata Technologies straight-away can be of significant help to the Mechanical Engineering, Automotive, Aerospace, Production Engineering and other branches. Students and their careers in these courses can be significantly impacted with the technologies and training those Tata Technologies will provide
- For this Tata Technologies expects that Institute would enter a 5-year long understanding and would establish competency building centres (labs).
- Tata Technologies would carry out Faculty Development Programmes; improvise the syllabus to meet the demands of industries; and create employment opportunities for students who undergo skill-building on latest world class technologies and tools
