Padmashri Shri. Shekhar Sen is a visionary who has redefined Indian musical theatre throughout his career. Known for his monoact plays, he has effectively fused devotional music with theatrical storytelling to appeal to an audience from all walks of life.

Shri. Sen has issued and performed in more than 200 bhajan albums and also delivered over 1200 concerts worldwide, establishing himself as a global icon throughout his illustrious life. Prominent performances include Kabeer at the Lok Sabha on 4 May 2005 and the iconic Vivekanand at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on 27 April 2013, which affirm his status as a cultural ambassador.

Shri Sen has been recognised with numerous awards for his contribution. In 2015, he received the Padma Shri Award — one of the highest civilian awards conferred by the Government of India, which recognises his contributions in the field of arts.

In 2001, the Sangeet Natak Academy, Uttar Pradesh, also recognised his contributions to theatre with the Safdar Hashmi Puraskaar. He also won the V. Shantaram Samman by the Maharashtra Rajya Hindi Sahitya Academy in 2008 for his artistic achievements. His innovation in the field of art also found expression through performances such as his monoact on Soordas at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on 11 April 2015, and representation in world art forums like the World Hindi Conferences in Suriname (2003) and Johannesburg (2012).
