Dr. Shekhar C. Mande

Dr. Shekhar C. Mande is the Secretary, DSIR and Director General Council of Scientific & Industrial Research. He did his Masters in Science with specializations in Chemistry, Mathematics and physics and completed his doctoral studies in Molecular Biophysics from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. ​

Prior to working with Council of Scientific & Industrial Research, Dr. Mande was the Director at National Centre for Cell Science, Pune, Staff Scientist at Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics, Hyderabad and Institute of Microbial Technology, Chandigarh.As a Research Scientist he was the senior fellow with University of Washington, Seattle, USA and Post Doctoral fellow with Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, Groningen, The Netherlands.

As a scientist of global repute his areas of research and academic interest include- Proteins structure and function, Biology of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, probed through structural analysis of proteins, various biophysical and biochemical approaches, Applications of Graph Theory to large scale protein interaction networks, and Computational methods to analyze large-scale biological data. He is the Fellow and Life Member associated with noted Academic and research organisations such as-Fellow, Indian National Science Academy, Delhi, Elected 2010, Fellow, Andhra Pradesh Akademi of Sciences, Elected 2010, Wellcome Trust International Senior Research Fellow, 2003-08, Fellow, National Academy of Sciences, Allahabad, India, Elected 2003, Fellow, Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore, Elected 2003, Life member, Indian Crystallographic Association, Life member, Indian Science Congress Association, Life member, Indian Biophysical Society among others. ​

In 1999, he was awarded B M Birla Young Scientist Award and in 2005, he was awarded the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Biological Sciences.
