Magsaysay Awardee, Well Known Water Conservationist (Waterman of India) & Chairman, Tarun Bharat Sangh
Dr. Rajendra Singh, known as the "Waterman of India," has dedicated his life to the cause of water conservation and rural development. As the Chairman of the Tarun Bharat Sangh, an NGO based in Rajasthan, he has spearheaded efforts to revive traditional water management systems, leading to the rejuvenation of over 10,000 water bodies and the revival of five rivers. His work has transformed the lives of countless rural communities, earning him international acclaim.
Dr. Singh’s illustrious career has been marked by his innovative approaches to sustainable development and his unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship. He is a recipient of numerous awards, including the Magsaysay Award in 2001 and the Stockholm Water Prize in 2015, often referred to as the “Nobel Prize for Water.”
His academic contributions include extensive research on water conservation, rural livelihoods, and environmental sustainability, which have informed policy frameworks at both national and international levels. Dr. Singh holds a Master’s degree in Ayurvedic Medicine from the National Institute of Ayurveda, Jaipur, and has dedicated over three decades to empowering rural India through sustainable water practices.
