MIT-WPU School of Law Inaugurates Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Law

The School of Law at MIT World Peace University (MIT-WPU), Pune, inaugurated the Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Law (CAIL) on 3 October 2025, marking a significant step towards advancing interdisciplinary legal education and research at the intersection of artificial intelligence, technology, and law.

The programme commenced with the World Peace Prayer, followed by the inaugural address by Prof. (Dr.) Santosh Aghav, Professor and Dean, School of Law, who highlighted the growing impact of artificial intelligence on legal systems, governance, and regulatory frameworks. He emphasised the need to equip future legal professionals with technological awareness while upholding ethics, accountability, and human values. He also shared the Centre's vision of fostering research, innovation, and collaboration between academia, industry, and policymakers.

The objectives of the Centre were presented by Mr. Rushil Chandra, Faculty Convenor, CAIL, highlighting its focus on interdisciplinary research, AI ethics and governance, legal technology, experiential learning, and industry-academia collaboration.

The event featured insightful guest lectures by Adv. Ameya D. Ranade, Partner, Tavish Law Offices LLP, who spoke on the evolving role of AI in legal practice, and Prof. Dr. Anand J. Kulkarni, Associate Director, Institute of Artificial Intelligence, MIT-WPU, who discussed the convergence of artificial intelligence and legal systems, along with the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in shaping the future of legal education.

A key highlight of the ceremony was the unveiling of the official logo of the Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Law (CAIL), followed by the introduction of the Centre's Student Body and a presentation showcasing its vision and future initiatives. The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Mr. Akash Dixit, Faculty Co-Convenor, CAIL.

The establishment of the Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Law reinforces MIT-WPU's commitment to innovation-driven legal education by creating a dedicated platform for research, policy discussions, and capacity building. Through this initiative, the School of Law aims to nurture technologically competent, ethically responsible, and future-ready legal professionals equipped to address the evolving challenges of an AI-driven world.
