The Goods and Services Tax (GST) has been one of India’s most significant economic reforms, aimed at creating One Nation, One Market, One Tax. Since its implementation in 2017, GST has improved transparency, standardised procedures, enhanced digital compliance, and strengthened the business environment. The Next-Generation GST Reforms, effective from 22 September 2025, mark a crucial evolution in India’s taxation system. These reforms simplify the tax structure by replacing the multiple slab system with a two-rate “Simple Tax” framework—a 5% Merit Rate and an 18% Standard Rate. The objective is to reduce classification disputes, lower compliance costs, support MSMEs, strengthen state revenues, and promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
Against this backdrop, the proposed national conference aims to bring together academicians, researchers, industry professionals, policymakers, bankers, and government officials to deliberate on the sectoral impact of Next-Generation GST reforms and their role in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 and Atmanirbhar Bharat.
- To facilitate scholarly dialogue on Next-Generation GST reforms and their economic impact.
- To examine the sector-wise implications of GST reforms.
- To analyse how GST reforms contribute to achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
- To assess sectoral dynamics and inclusivity dimensions of GST rate rationalisation.
- To provide a platform for research paper presentations and policy discussions.
- To generate policy recommendations for strengthening GST implementation and maximisingsectoral growth.
