Workshop & Production

The Department of Workshop and Production has four spacious shops namely: (1) Machine Shop, (2) Black-smithy Shop, (3) Carpentry and Fitting Shop & (4) Metrology Laboratory. All the shops are equipped with quality equipments and have well-qualified and experienced staff to maintain the equipment’s and impart training to students. The machine shop contains a number of general purpose machines including lathes, milling and shaping machines and special purpose machines such as MITR from HMT and a surface grinder from Praga.

The department has a total strength of 35 people. Every student, irrespective of his branch, is taught the right ways of using various hand tools. Also, he gets familiar with the different processes to shape and size the work piece when he moves from one section to another. Meanwhile, he also learns how to work in a group, and how to put forward his ideas, which is the core of a healthy society.
The department has a CNC Lab, which is equipped with CNC lathe machine of production type and CNC vertical milling machine of trainer type. Final year students working on these machines develop confidence in them and they can easily get accustomed with the CNC machine on the shop floor in whichever company they will be working without any apprehension.

Final year Mechanical Engineering students carry out projects in groups and every year different projects are undertaken. To mention a few of them; torsion testing machine, pantograph engraving machine, solar energy concentrator, robotic arm, etc.
Our department has a allotted space for CAD-CAM centre, which trains the students not only from our college, but also outsiders in CATIA, Uni-Graphics, Ansys, Mold Flow and Stadd-pro. After that, they can effectively handle projects in India and abroad.

The department is trying to induct professionalism in activities including all techno-commercial activities at par with any professional organization. Computerisation of workshop activities has been taken up in a big way. Activities are planned for strong interaction between MIT-WPU on one hand and industries and R&D on the other.
