The field of Photography & Fine Arts has vast scope for youth to pursue the same as a profession as it provides avenues for lucrative employment. The school of photography would facilitate learning of various branches of photography such as product photography, medical photography, fashion photography etc. Thus, this course has manifold advantages and I am sure, prospective students will avail the facility fully. Qualitative Education is a synonymous to MAEER’s Group of Educational Institutions in India & Abroad. I wish the School Management and its Teaching Staff a grand success. Meet the Principal

Ms. Ashwini Abhyankar-Ghaisas
Principal, MIT School of Photography, Pune

Ms. Ashwini Ghaisas is portrait photographer and leading short film maker. She holds a postgraduate degree in Fine arts (painting) and a diploma in photography. She is a trained film maker from the New York Film Academy, New York. As a director, her short films have won many accolades at International and national level film festivals. These include MIFF, JIFF, etc. Her specialty in portrait photography has resulted in completing several portfolio assignments including those of some of renowned personalities. She was awarded ‘Pu La Deshpande Smruti Puraskar’ for her achievements as young photographer. She has worked not only as a creative artist behind the camera but also in front of the camera as TV serial and film artiste, stage artiste, etc. She also has teaching experience in the field of photography. Costume designing and make-up artistry too have utmost contribution in her multifaceted career.It is her extensive experience in teaching photography that has lead in the formation of the strong foundation of the institute.

MIT-WPU School of Photography

MIT-WPU School of Photography is dedicated to providing quality education in photography. MIT-WPU SOP was started with the sole aim of reaching out to large number of aspirants who wish to pursue photography as a career or a hobby.

MIT-WPU-SOP provides a platform for photographers to give expression to their originality and create powerful visual communications. Photography is one of those rare activities that present a wonderful combination of technology and aesthetics. It is our endeavour to facilitate excellence through integrity and ethics.

B.A. Photography

The mission of the B.A- Photography study program is to prepare students for careers in the field of professional photography through a philosophy of “learning by doing.”  The cross-platform philosophy combined with the experiential learning provided by professional photographers/ instructors provides a unique and innovative technical education that develops graduates creative style and unique visual problem-solving skills.

The learning-by-doing principle has been advocated widely and in many forms.The three-year program is an intensive, hands-on program designed to train aspiring professional photographers in the art, craft, and business of contemporary image making. Encompassing state of the art digital technology, the moving image as a natural extension and 21st-century convergence of photographic and cinematic technologies and aesthetics, while being firmly grounded in the history and photo chemical processes of the medium, students graduate with a comprehensive set of skills tailored towards making them fiercely competitive in today’s marketplace.

Programme Highlights

The three year B.A. Photography course provides exhaustive knowledge and training in order to foster skilled professional photographers. The extensive course shall allow students to explore and embrace photography as a career and reach their pinnacle of excellence. In addition to the academic learning, the programme focusses on holistic development of students through the value-based education system of MIT-World Peace University.


Our prescribed Nine-Trimester Photography curriculum serves to address the following core competencies:

      • Comprehensive knowledge and proficiency with lighting tools, digital camera systems, digital output systems and the video controls on DSLRs

      • Understanding of the characteristics of available and artificial light and applying this to images

      • Proficiency in the use of Light room as an organizational tool, Photoshop as a non-destructive editing tool and other image editing and designing softwares.

      • Applied understanding of the visual language and aesthetic theories of photography and incorporate these in creative work.

      • Working knowledge of industry standard, marketing and business practices.

      • Knowledge of the history of photography, aesthetics and technology.

      • Ability to produce photographic work that is consistent with high professional standards.


    In the final year of this program, students get a chance to do a three month program at an International Institute affiliated with MIT-WPU.

Programme Structure

The B.A-Photography course follows syllabus prescribed by the UGC and offers 29 Core papers and 5 Generic Electives. It includes 2 AECC compulsory modules namely- Communication Skills and Environmental Studies of 2 credits each and 7 SEC modules of 2 credits each which include MIT World Peace University modules.

Spread across nine trimesters, students are immersed in all aspects of Photography study, representing a progression of knowledge that provides them with scholastically rigorous and creatively challenging courses.


The three years full time undergraduate programme of B.A Photography follows a Trimester Pattern with Credit System offering specialization in one of the following subjects:

Diploma in Photography

“Diploma in Photography” is a one-year part-time course that comprises of everything from Basic to Advance photographic studies. The course builds a strong technical and aesthetical base. We believe that scientific foundation of photographic art is essential to enable students to efficiently apply technical knowledge to his/her creativity. We aim to groom our students to become technically and aesthetically sound photographers, who can cater to the various photography genres.

Programme Highlights

Students get to learn about various genres ranging from Advertising, Fashion and Wildlife to Medical photography and much more. In order to provide deep knowledge, special workshops and guest lectures are organized for every genre. We thrive to provide students with maximum practical guidance by arranging demonstrations both in the studio and outdoors.

Study Tour

Every year we organize a study tour with the aim to let our students explore their photography skills in a new place away from the comfort of the college campus and their city. The destinations that we choose for study tour provide abundant opportunities to capture street life, architecture, portraits, landscapes, wildlife etc. The study tour has proved to be extremely beneficial for students and has bought out the best in them.

Co-Curricular activities

Click Foto Fest is an integral part of MITSOP’s co-curricular activities. Click is an exhibition of student’s work from that particular academic year. The students organize this event with able guidance from the staff and management. It is a great platform for our students to showcase their talent in front of the who’s who from the industry.

Examinations and Submissions

We believe that a student’s progress depends largely on regular assessment of his/her skills and giving guidance based on their performance. Therefore, students must complete assignments given to them every month. Exams are conducted twice a year. Mid-term exam is held before Diwali vacations and final exams are held in the month of April.

Eligibility / Selection Criteria

 For B.A-Photography

Aspiring students for B.A-Photography study program need to meet the following admission criteria –

    • 10 + 2 or Equivalent with Min. 50% marks (English as a compulsory subject)

    • Admissions for First Year B.A. Photography will be enrolled through Entrance Test – UGPET conducted by MIT WPU, Pune.

    • UG-PET Entrance of 100 Marks. Interested candidates have to submit Online Application three days prior to respective Entrance Test day.

    • UG-PET 2018 Score will be valid only for admission of MIT World Peace University for the academic year of 2018-19. Selection / Short listing of the candidates at MIT World Peace University (MIT-WPU) will be strictly based on merit, assessment of individual performance in the UG-PET Entrance Test.

    • Any Basic DSLR camera with Kit Lens is mandatory.

 For Digital Photography

    • DIPLOMA IN DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY : 10th pass (SSC or Equivalent)

    • Personal Interview

Department Infrastructure

At MIT-WPU SOP we believe in providing our students with a perfect canvas to create their masterpieces, thus we have intricately designed 3 studios for our students to explore their creative potential unhindered and to their highest ability.

    • Master Studio – Our Master studio is a spread across a huge 24ft X 60ft. This spacious studio is designed to accommodate 2 elaborate and 2-3 small setups at the same time. This studio is perfect for students opting for customized sets designed for their shoots.

    • Professional Studios – Along with the master studio, we have two more studios of 16ft X 30ft. These studios too are perfect for any professional shoot.We always strive to provide our students with the best of infrastructure. Thus, our studios are fully equipped with latest lighting equipment used by professionals in the industry.

    • Computer Lab – MIT-WPU School of Photography has fully air conditioned computer lab with latest software for post processing.

    • Library – An excellent library that hasa large collection of technical and non-technical books, which cover relevant aspects of photography is constantly updated. The library also subscribes to a wide assortment of national and international newspapers, magazines and journals that are available for ready reference by Faculty and Students.
