Maharashtra Institute of Technology (MIT) is undergoing a transformation into MIT World Peace University (MIT- WPU). The transformation recognizes the great vision and the tireless contributions of our founder President Professor Dr. Vishwanath D. Karad and his team of contributors. The transformation recognizes the great State of Maharashtra and her industrious world vision. The word “Peace,” in the name of the University is deliberate and can be interpreted as: personal peace, peace in the family, in the community, in the town, in the city, in the state, in the country, and in the world.
Peace is recognized as an essential condition for the development of young minds into productive technologists, efficient makers, transformative inventors, and reliable partners. Personality development and peaceful demeanor are promoted by a careful examination of the curriculum resulting in elimination of redundant topics and efficient combining of others. Examples from current events, products and markets are brought to the classroom on a daily basis.
Students are not taught but encouraged to learn the current material and are encouraged to continuously learn new material on their own and through refreshers. Refresher courses will often be necessary in the fast moving modern world. All four year courses are separated into freshman, sophomore, junior and senior levels emphasizing learning rather than the time in the program as the advancement criteria.
The freshman year is often common across majors with the latter being determined with careful career counselling and aptitude testing for the selection of the right path. Each course will include immersion in an urban environment and in a rural environment with projects involving community service and undergraduate research within and outside India.
