Program Overview

MIT-WPU believes that Research is an essential part of higher education system and is critical to societal development. It generates knowledge, provides useful information, and helps decision-making, among many other benefits. In view of the long tradition of academic excellence and under the guidelines prescribed by the University Grants Commission, MIT WPU offers the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) under the Faculty of Engineering and Technology.

The rules for admission to the Ph.D. program and the duration of Ph.D. program are as per the guidelines of University Grants Commission and academic ordinances/regulations of MIT-WPU. For admission to Ph.D. Program, students should have cleared a Master’s degree in the appropriate stream from a recognized institute of repute. The students are expected to complete course work and undertake research work that is original work characterized either by the discovery of facts, or by a fresh approach towards the interpretation and application of facts, or development of equipment making a distinct advancement in technology. Ph.D. degree is granted for research work in areas recognized by the academic School.

MIT WPU thrives on a strong research culture that nurtures creativity and promotes investigation for a social benefit. The University believes in establishing support systems that boost morale and enhances a positive research culture. The faculty are encouraged to contribute their research findings in referred journals and calendar conferences, filing patents, IPR and converting the research into product/prototype. MIT –WPU has research collaborations with various research organizations and industries. Most of the schools have received research funding from various funding agencies in India and abroad.

The School of Computer Engineering and Technology is one of the largest School at MIT-WPU. MIT WPU School of CET has a stable foundation in its strong teaching and research focus and students are groomed along the value based education to face the challenges in society. The strength of the School is in its state of the art infrastructure and a perfect blend of academia, industry, and research culture. Features that promote research include fully equipped laboratories and Centre of Excellence established by MNC like IBM, AMDOCS, NVIDIA and the IEEE Pune section (Affordable Agriculture Technology Laboratory). The school has received grants from Indian and foreign University from Canada and Australia to name a few. It has received grants from IBM besides being the IBM Centre of Excellence. Other MODROB, RPS and IEEE grants have also been received to develop labs in over the past few years of its rich history. The faculty also engages in finding technical solutions to industry problems through consultancy and projects.

Publications is an essential way to publicise the research work taken by the faculty and students under the aegis of the school. The number of publications by them in reputed journals and conferences has been growing at a fast rate. The school regularly hosts training programs, STTP , lecture series and International conference to ensure networking with experts and promoting research work

In a world increasingly driven by technology, university research is the foundation of any nation’s economic growth. MIT- WPU School of Electronics & Communication Engineering is committed to long-term research in frontier areas like Wireless Communication, Signal Processing, Artificial Intelligence & Machine learning, Computer vision, VLSI Design & Embedded Systems.
Students and faculty conduct research projects in thrust areas of Electronics & Communication Engineering. The institute has ongoing academic and research collaborations with many universities, research institutes, social health care groups and industries like Indian Space research Organization (ISRO), Indian institute of tropical Meteorology (IITM), Astha Breast cancer support group, NVIDIA, and Semiconductor Lab Chandigarh, Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) in order to keep pace with expanding frontiers of knowledge and global developments.

To align its R&D focus with the mentioned research domains, School of ECE is well equipped with the state of art hardware and software facilities and digital resources like access to conference papers and referred journal papers (IEEE transactions, Springer journals). For R&D in Signal /Image / Video processing, Computer vision and Artificial Intelligence & Machine learning, facilities available are High performance computation platforms like NVIDIA workstation with graphics cards, Intel Xeon / Multicore servers, Texas signal processing kits (TMDXE EVM 8168 Evaluation Kit with CCD Camera), Wavelet Technologies Make Digital Image Processing lab-1.0, Matlab & Simulink simulation software.
For Internet of Things based developments Intel Galileo, Grove starter kits, various communication modules, sensors, Raspberry pi, NI myRIO with Mechatronics kit, Neural Compute sticks are available at the School. Embedded Systems Laboratory provides embedded electronics hardware like Educational Practice Board for ARM7, Educational Practice Boards for ARM, Cortex M3LPC1768 TFT/Touch Screen Interfacing kit, basic sensors and actuators with interfacing kits, Texas Instruments make DSP Starter kit and development boards donated by ATMEL, Texas Instruments.

VLSI Design laboratory is equipped with high end software like Xilinx VIVADO with SDSOC, Cadence software (Analog and digital – front end and back end), and Spartan 3 and Basys 3 Artix-7 FPGA Trainer boards. VLSI chip fabrication is also facilitated as MIT-WPU has signed a Nondisclosure agreement with Semiconductor Lab, Chandigarh for free of cost fabrication of chips at 180 nm technology.

School of ECE has well equipped wireless communication laboratory. It facilitates hardware like USRP: Universal Software Radio Peripheral, Vector network analyser, Spectrum analyser, Logic Analyzer, Microwave Integrated Circuits Trainer Kit, Antenna Kit and Antenna Simulation Software like HFSS: High Frequency Structure Simulator and IE3D.

Faculty and students of School of ECE have published almost 90 papers in refereed journals and indexed conferences and filed more than ten patents during last three years. Published work is well cited by the researchers on the globe. School of ECE has received funding worth of amount Rs. 91,000 Lakhs for various research projects from Government Funding agencies.

The doctor of philosophy program (PhD) in Civil Engineering at MITWPU, Pune provides a platform to students for exploring their research skills in a specialized area and to develop a dissertation that embodies the results of original research and gives evidence of high merit. The School of Civil Engineering, MITWPU, Pune offer a unique opportunity to students for acquiring a systematic and critical understanding of a complex field of learning and specialized research skills in core aspects of civil engineering to advance learning and/or professional practice.

The faculty at school of Civil Engineering comprising a multi-disciplinary team, attempts to deliver industry relevant, original solutions in an ethical and sustainable way. The team, through its doctoral program endeavours to develop engineering solutions that make a difference to society. Many peer reviewed articles and patents are published by the faculty as an outcome of doctoral research.

Research-oriented and focused on the latest developments in the discipline, our program equips the students with skills for advancements in civil engineering research careers in the private sector. It also prepares them to enhance their teaching skills at the university level, ensuring that most recent advancements in the field are shared with a new generation of civil engineers. The research is strongly supported by state of art experimental and computational facilities, many of which are procured through research grants from reputed organizations including AICTE, MOUs with recognized academic institutes like Politecnico De Milano of Italy and industries.

Broad areas of research available at the school include structural engineering; construction & management; environmental engineering, geotechnical engineering, and tunnel engineering. The structural engineering team also offers research opportunities in latest technology such as tensegrity structures and biomechanics. The team expertise is reinforced by the latest equipment available in the laboratory including servo dynamics shake table, waste concrete characterization test set ups and many more. The laboratories are equipped with modern computational software needed for analysis & design.

The construction & management group focuses on diverse research areas in construction as well as management. The team engages in active research focusing on conventional as well as sustainable road construction, contracts and quality management and the like. Some new areas like impact of geopathic stress on road accidents are also being explored in the school. The computational facilities are strengthened with most of the available project management software.

The environmental engineering faculty team is exploring a wide array of potential thrust areas including the conventional topics of monitoring and analysis of ambient air and water. The environmental group is attempting to analyse safe recycling practices for e-waste and lithium ion batteries (which are used in electric vehicles), including assessing the risk of occupational exposure due to unsafe handling & recycling practices.

The school boasts to offer a unique opportunity for research in tunnel engineering. The existing PG program in tunnel engineering is further being strengthened through doctoral research in topics like risk assessment in tunneling, design of segmental lining, seismic analysis of tunnels, etc. The program supports collection of field data through study tours at a variety of tunneling sites and provides Rocscience RS2 and RS3 software for analysis.

The School of Mechanical Engineering at MIT-World Peace University strives to establish continuous and long term interactions and collaborations with various organisations of repute for the benefit of Students and Faculty. We received Funded Research Projects from reputed organisation such as Armament Research and Development Establishment (DRDO), AICTE, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), Department of Science and Industrial Research (DSIR). Total funding received by school since last five years is more than 90 Lakhs.

With a legacy of four decades behind it, the MIT-WPU Petroleum, Polymer and Chemical Engineering is one of the foremost centres of chemical engineering within the whole of India. This is essentially confluence of unique, diversified and multidisciplinary domains of Petroleum, Polymer and Chemical Engineering. We have around 40+ Faculty members with expertise in diversified areas of specialization and working in the frontier areas of research.
