Programme Overview


The M.Tech Petroleum engineering course offered at MIT-WPU have been developed keeping in mind the requirements of the petroleum industry. The structure and syllabus contents are categorized as Engineering Core, Departmental Core, Departmental Electives, Humanities, and World Peace Program as well as Self-Study and Online Learning.
MIT-WPU Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Student Chapter organizes an “Annual Industry Institute Interaction Program (AIIIP)” which provides an opportunity for students to showcase their talent and skills to the industry through various activities and competitions. This, in turn, serves to increase industry network, enhance understanding and upgrade skills for employment opportunities.

Programme Structure


The M. Tech Petroleum Engineering is a two years full-time study program of Trimester Pattern with total of six terms. The program offers specialized tracks including –

  • Exploration and Reservoir Engineering.

  • Drilling Engineering

  • Production , Processing and Environment

  • Refining and Transport

  • Supply chain Management

  • Data Analytics

In addition to in-depth academics, the school of Petroleum Engineering focusses on Learning beyond classroom.
The post-graduate students are encouraged to undertake internships in an industry of their choice. Also, for their final dissertation, they work on a live project in the industry, which adds value to their research. The projects are supported by the industry.
Month-Long technical activities are organized as a part of MIT-WPU SPE (Society of Petroleum Engineers) Annual Industry Institute Interaction Program (AIIIP). This program provides an opportunity for the students to showcase their talent and skills to the industry professionals through various competitions and activities. This includes SPE International Young Professionals workshops, case studies related to different disciplines of Petroleum Engineering, model making, paper, and poster presentation and panel discussion, where industry experts share their experiences with the students.
