ESSO-National Institute of  Technology (NIOT), under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, organizes National Student Autonomous underwater vehicle (SAVe) competition for students pursuing an engineering degree to visualize and design an Autonomous underwater vehicle. The conceptual basis for student Autonomous underwater vehicle (SAVe), is a highly mobile Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) to be built based on engineering principles.

The main focus of this competition is to involve students on the new frontier areas of ocean technology and kindle their innovative thinking in this unexplored area of the ocean environment and observation. NIOT sponsors the winning team of the National Competition SAVe to participate in the International competition being held annually in AUVSI foundation San Diego, USA.

In order to expand our horizons beyond Rocbocon, MWRC(MIT-WPU Robotics Club) participated in SAVe (Students Autonomous Underwater Vehicle) Competition. In our first attempt at this Premier Underwater Robotics Competition, we not only managed to clear two rounds but also manage to claim 3rd place all over India.

After acing the qualifying rounds MIT-WPU was among 14 teams that were asked to present their AUVs. Even among the qualifying team, we were the 2nd team among the final 5 teams. At the end of the competition, we secured 3rd rank, being the first debutant team to rank so high. with this achievement, MIT-WPU once again proved its calibre in the field of Robotics.
