Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia Study Tour Report (30th March 2019-10th April 2019)Introduction
This report is a summary of the 10 days tour in Australia accompanied by Prof. Pallavi Adya and Prof. Sudeepta Banerjee.
The students where taken to Macquarie university in Sydney. It was a tour which had the motive of giving students an exposure of the know how of the universities abroad.
From the 1st of April to the 5th of April students were given campus exposure and after which students were taken for the sightseeing of Sydney and Brisbane.Summary of the tour
Students departed from Pune on the 29th on March as students had an early morning flight on the 30th from the Chhatrapati Shivaji international airport, Mumbai.
On the 30th of March in the morning students reached Hong Kong as they had a transit and since students had time students did a city sightseeing tour there. On the 30th in the evening students had a flight to Australia and students landed in on the 31st of March 2019.
On the 31st students had a day off as everyone was tired of the journey and students were to start lectures from the 1st of April 2019. On the 1st of April in the morning the project officer of the university Ms. Baby Foo came to receive students at the hotel and walked students to the university where we were offered some snacks and then students had an introduction and orientation by A/Dean Professor Philomena Leung.
After the introduction students had lunch on the university campus and then had a tour of the decision lab of the university after which students were divided into two groups and sent for the respective lectures. Group A had introduction to global business by Dr. Murray Taylor and group B had workplace relations by Dr, Troy Sarina.
On the 2nd of April students had lectures again, group A had organizational behavior, by Dr Joseph Mclvor and group B had global business model and structure by associate professor Peter Shi. After these lectures students had a networking lunch with some selected Indian students of the university, which was headed by Ms. Zarana Shah. The whole idea of having this networking lunch was to help students understand how these students find the university life and how did they adapt to the new teaching patterns of the university. After the networking lunch students had a lecture on customer relationship management by Dr. Con Korkofingas. This lecture was a combined lecture of group A&B.
On the 3rd of April in the morning students had a talk by faculty of business and economics. The talks were by Prof. Rahat Munir on accounting, by Dr. Aron O’Cass on Marketing, Dr. Di Bu for Finance, professor Grant for management, Dr. Rob Jack for international Business which was followed by a lunch with the above faculty so that we could talk to them and get clear any doubts and get a clear understanding. After the lunch students had a presentation from the university which solved doubts like ‘tips to prepare for higher education/university life’ by Simon and his colleagues. After this interaction Ms. Zarana Shah took us for a tour of the robotized library where they showed us how they keep their books and how students can find any possible book in the library and borrow. After the library tour students were offered light snacks and some tea. After the tea break students had an innovation challenge by Dr. Deborah Howlett and Dr. Salut Muhidin, which was to be completed with the interaction with students of the universities.
On the 4th of April students had lectures again, group A had a seminar on leading self by Mrs. Deborah Howlett, Dr. Senia Kalfa and group B had a lecture on consumer behavior by Dr. Jana Bowden- Everson. After which students had lunch and then taken to the city campus of the university.
On the 5th of April students were asked to prepare a presentation of what they did, what students learnt and what they felt about the 5 days on the university campus. After this students were given certificates and had a group photo, which was followed by the afternoon tea. With this the students came to an end of the 5, day campus exposure program.
After the university hours the students use to have the evening free where students saw the Opera House, Darling Harbor, Harbor Bridge which was followed by dinner and then students were taken back to the hotel to prepare for the following day.
On the 6th of April, we had an evening flight to Brisbane. The whole of the day on 6th students did a city tour of Sydney and finish with our packing for Brisbane.
After reaching Brisbane on the 6th students had dinner and were supposed to rest.
On the 7th of April students went to the amusement park, Warner brother movie world. Students spent a whole day in the park after which students went to the Spit and came back to the hotel.
On the 8th of April students visited the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, and had a day with the koalas and the kangaroos.
On the 9th of April 2019 students had a morning flight to Hong Kong. On the 9th students reached Hong Kong and spent some time at the airport after which students had a flight back to Mumbai. We reached Mumbai on the 10th of April 2019.
