“The Meaning & the content of fundamental rights guaranteed in the constitution of India are sufficient amplitudes to encompass all facts of gender equality” The Sexual Harassment of Women at the workplace(Prevention, prohibition, & Redressal) Act also called as the (POSH Act) was enacted by the Ministry of Women & Child development of India in 2013. The Act is an extension of the Vishakha Guidelines issued by the Supreme Court in 1997
The main objective of the act is preventing & protecting the women against workplace sexual harassment & to ensure effective redressal of complaints of sexual harassment.
Workplace Sexual harassment is a form of gender discrimination which violates a women’s fundamental right to equality & the right to life guaranteed under Article 14,15 & 21 of the constitution of India.
The Supreme Court has made it mandatory on each & every Organization, Institution to take sufficient measures for Protection, Prohibition & Prevention of Working Women. The UGC guidelines have also made it mandatory on all educational Institutions to take effective steps for sexual harassment like spreading awareness among Student’s & Staff, constitute an Internal Committee for redressal of such complaints In Compliance with the UGC guidelines MIT-WPU FoM UG has organized an awareness lecture on “Gender Sensitization & POSH Policy” on 11th December 2018.
The lecture was delivered by Mrs. Renuka Mukadam who is a practicing Consultant on gender issues & is a member of Internal Committees of different reputed Educational Institutions Nearly 500 Student’s attended the lecture. The lecture started with a welcome address by Dr. R.M. Chitnis. Dr. Chitnis urged the students to openly share their self-experience as well as an opinion about Sexual harassment. The lecture explained the ideas & concept governing Gender. It also provided sufficient guidelines as to prevention of sexual harassment & means for its redressal. The lecture was also attended by Members of the Internal Committee of MIT-WPU.
