MIT-WPU is proud to present the first ever batch of its design students! The MIT-WPU School of Design has started its bachelors of Design program with the first batch starting in 2018. The event started at 0900 hours sharp with the students registrations and distributions if a Welcome Kit to each of the students. They were then shown a few motivational films and films about design, something that was very well received by them.

Following this, the dignitaries came on stage and our patent World Peace Prayer was sung, something which was anew (and moving) experience for our new students! at 0930 hours the traditional Lamp was lit to mimic the illumination many young minds were about to receive in the profession of design! The welcome and induction address was made by Prof Dr Suman Devadula. It was followed by addresses from Prof Dr Srihari Honwad (Provost, MIT-WPU), Prof Dr Muruganant (Pro-Vice-Chancellor, MIT-WPU), Prof Dr I K Bhat (Vice-Chancellor, MIT-WPU) and finally by Shri Rahul V Karad (Executive President, MIT-WPU). All speeches were eagerly received by the students who realised the gravity of the event and were thoroughly involved in it as well!

At around 1010, the Guest of honour, Mr Siva Sankar Aittili (Lead Designer and Deputy GM, Tata Motors, Pune) in which he explained the nuances of design along with its importance. He made the students realise the worth of design by explaining how he had gotten to such a senior position because of his expertise on the topic. You could feel the rapt attention he got along with the earnestness of the students to emulate him in life!

By 1040, the Chief Guest, Mr Ashok Panwalkar (Owner of 3F Design company and former Design Director at Philips) rose to speak, and he gave a detailed and informative talk to all those present about the power of Design. he made all the students understand that without a good design, even the best of products will fail to make an impact on the market. he further elaborated on how design is ingrained in every product out there and will be so for every product that will ever be created. The applause he got was heartfelt.

Finally, Prof Dr Vishwanath D Karad took to the dais and welcomed all the students of the first batch of the School of Design. He spoke warmly and meaningfully of the reason and functionality of Design, along with why he wished to integrate such a school under the aegis of MIT-WPU. He elaborated on the path and challenges the students will be facing and told them all to keep to the traditions of honestly and hard work. That would be enough to surmount any obstacle or challenge!
