The Department of English, Liberal Arts, MIT-WPU, had organized a field visit to The British Council Library for FY B.A. (Hons) English students on Tuesday, August 21, 2018. A group of about 20 students availed this golden opportunity under the guidance of faculty members.

British Council Library is the one which brings out to us the best of British content, from live events to summits and workshops. The Library is on the third floor, Ramsukh House, Ganeshkhind Road, Shivaji Nagar, Pune. It has around 20,000 books on the shelves and more than 60,000 available online. It has a great ambience which adds up to the viable atmosphere for the visit of its members and other people. It has multipurpose sound proof compartments. It also has a very affable staff and also a special track for disabled people so they can use wheel chairs in all parts of the Library.

In the British Council Library, the students were given an insight of the knowhow and the different sections of Library like literature, language, daily magazines, history, classics, comics as well as periodicals. The Library is well furnished with different spaces for adults, students and kids and also houses a cafeteria. It also provides wide range of opportunities for continuous personal and professional development through Library services such as English language learning, examination workshops and many other events. In the Library, there’s also an arts section wherein people showcase their creativity. The Library offers many online courses to its members, also conducts various events to develop language skills. A yearly exhibition is also conducted for the aspirants who want to enroll themselves in universities in U.K.TOFEL exam is also conducted with a proper training to the students. The Library is really appealing with all advanced technologies making learning fun. The things which attracted students the most were the books withQR codes that can be downloaded free of cost,the online membership where books can be read and downloaded online (with 14 days’ time limit) and the touchscreen wall mounted computers which can be accessed easilyand ease the selection process of the books.

Ms. Kajri Mitra, the Library official, was very knowledgeable and provided students with all the basic information about the Library. All the students were overwhelmed with this visit.
