Established in the year 2007 Tribology Laboratory is one of the first of its kind in Pune region. It was developed with an intention to expose the students to the cutting edge technology in an area other than their mainstream Mechanical Engineering course. With its research potential, the laboratory gained a lot of popularity in the state benefiting many postgraduate and doctoral students in their research. The laboratory owns research-grade equipment’s from the best and reputed manufacturer of Tribology equipment. The laboratory can prove a significant contributor in the efforts to make our department a center of excellence.”
Hydraulics and Pneumatics Laboratory
In Hydraulics and Pneumatics laboratory students are connecting various hydraulics and pneumatics circuits using trainer kits and also students can design and simulate circuits using Automation Studio Software. Students can Interface trainer kit circuits with Automation Studio software using I/O box with PLC programming. The Hydraulics and Pneumatics Laboratory is equipped with Gear Pump/Vane Pump Test set-up, VICKER’S Hydraulic Trainer Kit (Double Acting Cylinders, Hydraulic Motor, Flow Control Valve, Sequencing Valve, Pressure Reducing Valve,4/3 DCV, Power Pack), FESTO’s Didactic Pneumatic Trainer Kit (Single Acting Cylinder, Double Acting Cylinders, Pilot Operated 5/2 DCV, Solenoid Operated 5/2 DCV, Proximity Sensors, Limit Switches, Quick Exhaust Valve, Time Delay Valve, AND Gate, OR Gate, Roller Operated 3/2 Valves, Lever Operated 5/2 Valve Etc.) Automation Studio Software 5.7 & 6.1, I/O Interfacing Kit.
Fluid Mechanics and Machinery Laboratory
Fluid Mechanics and Machinery laboratory is equipped with Impact of Jet setup, Pelton turbine test setup, Francis turbine test setup, Reciprocating pump, Centrifugal pump test setup, Redwood Viscometer, Determination of Metacentric height of floating object setup, Reynolds’s apparatus. Drawing Flow net using Electrical Analogy and Hele-Shaw apparatus, Bernoulli’s equation verification setup, Calibration of Orifice meter/Venturimeter/Notch, Determination of hydraulic coefficients of orifice, Minor/Major losses through pipes.
Heat Transfer Laboratory
Heat Transfer lab is fully equipped with all experimental setup prescribed by MIT-WPU. Besides we have an experimental setup of Measurement of Thermal Conductivity of Nano-fluids as well as Heat Pipe for postgraduate and Ph.D. programme. The experimental setup is available for all modes of heat transfer. i.e. Conduction, Convection, and Radiation.
IC Engine Laboratory
The aim of this laboratory is to carry out experiments and research at UG, PG and Ph.D. level in the area of internal combustion engines with an objective of increasing fuel efficiency, emission control, and engine durability and new technology development. The major equipment’s available are Single Cylinder Diesel Engine (computerized), Two Cylinder Diesel Engine (make- Cummins) Two Cylinder Diesel Power Plant (with lamp bank) Three cylinder Petro engine (make-Maruti). Some of the PG project completed under this lab are Exhaust gas recovery of Cummins 2 cylinder Diesel engine, Projects on research engine for testing different blends of bio diesel.
Renewable Energy Laboratory
Renewable Energy Laboratory of Mechanical Engineering is equipped with a weather data station which consist of the following measuring instruments like Radiation Pyranometer, Air temperature sensor, Humidity sensor, Wind dynamometer etc. These data are useful for the research work on solar energy and wind energy for UG, PG as well as Ph.D. Program.

Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Laboratory
Refrigeration & Air Conditioning laboratory is equipped with 6 Nos Test set-ups – Refrigeration Test rig, Air Conditioning test rig, Ice Plant, Heat Pump test rig, Electrolux Refrigerator (Vapour Absorption System) and Refrigerator EER test rig. In addition a Cooling Tower test set-up is also installed outside the laboratory. The laboratory also has a Refrigerator EER set-up developed by undergraduate students as their project. The set-up has temperature indicator-cum-recording system which can be connected to a computer to calculate EER of the refrigerator. Heat Pump test rig is a unique feature of our laboratory which is not found in any other institute. The set-up facilitates measurement of heat absorbed in the evaporator as well as heat rejected in the condenser by measuring the flow rates and temperature drop/rise across the components.
Theory of Machine and Dynamics of Machinery Laboratory
Theory of machines and Mechanical vibration laboratory is mainly focused towards the experiments of theory of machines and dynamics of machinery subjects for undergraduate courses and for the advanced mechanical vibrations subject for postgraduate course in design engineering.
The total laboratory investment is about 70 lakhs. The laboratory is well equipped with all basic and latest equipments as per the requirement of MIT –WPU and SPPU syllabus. The Lab is mainly equipped with all the modern vibrations equipment like Electro dynamic shaker, damping coefficient measurement equipment, whirling of shaft equipment, Fault diagnosis set-up, dynamic balancing machine etc. In addition to this the laboratory is having high end vibration measurement devices like B& K multi-channel vibration analyzer, B& K uni-axial and tri-axial accelerometers, microphone, B & K impact hammer, SKF TKSA 20 laser alignment Tool for alignment of mechanical systems, stroboscope, oscilloscope, amplifier
The Mechatronics lab provides various facilities and experimental setup in the field of Mechatronics. The lab is equipped with various measuring instruments like Load cell, flow, temperature, pressure measurement etc. The laboratories has various Mechatronic applications such as opening and closing of door, lift , bottle filling plant, hydraulic system etc. There are various training kits available like Allen Bradley PLC, Festo PLC to interface with various applications.
Computer Lab is well equipped with state of art latest computational tools and modeling and analysis software like MATLAB, CAD software like AutoCAD, MSC Software 2017, Altair Hypermesh, and ANSYS18. In addition to this Manufacturing process software like Delcam- FeatureCam. Computer lab having 60+ computers with latest configuration.
