Eligibility Criteria

Graduate from any stream. Candidates appearing for their final year graduation exam may also apply.

Selection Process

It comprises of a written test followed by a personal interview taken by the selection panel. The written test includes 5 descriptive type questions based on current & political affairs. Each has to be answered in approx 100 words.

Final Result & Admission offer

The final result is declared within two working days from the date of selection.

The selected Applicants need to pay Rs. 1, 50,000/- as the first installment of the total course fee of Rs. 2.5 lac/-. (Rs. 1000/- is non-refundable in case of withdrawal of admission on or before July 31, 2018 thereafter no refunds)

Course Syllabus

The Two-year full time Master’s in Political Leadership & Government (MPG) consists of different topics, which are covered as 10 modules covering Indian Polity, Economy and International Politics. These enable students to understand political process in India.

In addition, students have one Foundation Course (FC) which focuses on the developing societies, economies and politics. The main emphasis is on experiences rather than the theories. The classes for this course are held at the TISS Convention Centre, Mumbai.

Apart from the modules, there are different Workshops, Seminars, Projects, Constituency Studies, Case Studies, Discussions, Issue based Internship, Election Study Tour, National Study Tour, Internship on Constituency Management etc.

What are the basic eligibility criteria for admission to MPG program?

Any graduate can apply for the program. Students who have appeared in their final year of degree program from any faculty from a recognized University are also eligible to apply for the program.

Why do I select this program as a career option?

It is a Leadership Program designed and devised for a select few who are interested in taking up leadership roles in the areas of Politics & Government. Their future role may involve an active interaction with government, society and media at various levels.

How MPG is different from a PG Degree in Political Science?

Masters in Political Science is a theoretical course where there is minimal exposure given to Students towards practical aspects of the functioning of government. Our course focuses on the experiential, facilitative and case study method of learning whereby the students are exposed to a participative mode of learning. The highlights are –

    • Interaction with Eminent Political Leaders, Social Activists, Civil Servants, Academicians, Media persons and Legal Practitioners.

    • Practical inputs will be in the form of a lot of field assignments like – projects on social causes.

    • An optional two weeks International Study tour to give the candidates – the global exposure towards functioning of their parliaments and offices.

    • National Study Tour to Delhi comprising of visits to Lok sabha, Rajya Sabha, Rashtrapati Bhawan, Election Commission, Secretariat, National Political party offices etc.

    • Local Field visits to State Assembly, Municipal Corporation, Zilla Parishad, Gram Panchayat, NGOs have been incorporated in the program.

    • Study Tours for Constituency Management & Election Management.

What is the process for selection to the Program?

The selection process for MPG-15 comprises of a descriptive type written test followed by a detailed personal interview by the selection panel.

What is the Program Structure like?

Two-year Post Graduate degree program in Political Leadership & Government comprises of a trimester-based system. There are total 6 trimesters in the program. Topics start from the lowest tier of government, the Gram Panchayat to the Parliament. This being an experiential learning program where 50% of the learning is through the classroom lectures and 50% of the learning is through the field visits, study tours & assignments.

What is the Fee Structure?

What are the parameters for the Interview Process?

How many seats for the MPG Program are available at MIT-SOG?

MIT-SOG has strength of 60 seats.

Is there any reservation in seats available for PG Degree program?

No reservations and quotas are applicable. The selection of the students is purely based on the merit only i.e. the performance in the descriptive type written test and the personal interview.

How I will be intimated about my selection in PG Degree program?

Successful Candidates are informed via phone and email on the same day or the next day of the selection process. Offer Letters are sent within two working days from the date of selection via courier or registered post as applicable.
