Prof. Dr. Rupakjyoti Borah

Prof. Dr. Rupakjyoti Borah is Professor and Dean-in-Charge at The School of Liberal Arts(SOLA), MIT-World Peace University, Pune. He has served as Visiting Professor at Gakushuin University, in Tokyo, Japan. In addition, he has successfully completed visiting assignments at the University of Cambridge (UK), the Australian National University (Australia), the Japan Institute of International Affairs (Japan) and the National University of Singapore (NUS) He holds a PhD from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), India.

In Japan, he has delivered lectures in prestigious universities and institutions like Chuo University, Gakushuin University, Dokkyo University, Waseda University, the National Institute of Defence Studies (NIDS), Keio University, the International Christian University, the University of Tokyo, Kyoto University, Osaka University, besides at the Japan Institute of International Affairs (JIIA), Tokyo.

He is a Young Strategists’ Forum 2019 Alumni (organised by the German Marshall Fund of the US-GMFUS). He was also a speaker at the Jakarta International Defence Dialogue on “Building Maritime Collaboration for Security and Stability along with the likes of Admiral Harry B Harris, former commander of the US Pacific Command, March 2014. He has published in Scopus-indexed journals like The Roundtable--The Commonwealth Journal of International Affairs and the Australian Journal of International Affairs.

His recent book is The Strategic Relations between India, the United States and Japan in the Indo-Pacific: When Three is Not a Crowd (2021) which has been published by World Scientific Publishers, Singapore. His first book, The Elephant and the Samurai: Why Japan Can Trust India? was published in 2017. His second book (2019) is Act-East via the Northeast-How India’s Northeast is strengthening the Kizuna(bond) between India, Japan and ASEAN? The foreword to all these three books has been penned by Prof. James Mayall, Prof. Borah’s supervisor at the University of Cambridge.
