FireSide Chat with R.Balki
The MIT World Peace University (MIT - WPU) Department of Media and Communication hosted an engaging “Fire – Side Chat with R. Balki,” featuring renowned filmmaker Shri. R. Balki and veteran Documentary maker and TV presenter Shri. Siddharth Kak On 13th November 2024.
The session was part of the university’s initiative to foster collaboration between the creative industries and academia, and it provided a great opportunity for the students to interact with a renowned personality.
The session began with a welcome note addressed by Prof. Dheeraj Singh, Associate Dean, Department of Media and Communication, MIT - WPU.
During the session, Shri. Siddharth Kak brought Shri. Balki’s ability in storytelling and media communication to the fore. He asked insightful questions, which allowed Shri. Balki to delve deeper into his individual experiences, including how he transitioned from advertising to filmmaking.
Shri. Balki elaborated on how the advertising industry has evolved from traditional TV commercials to multi-platform campaigns that blend creativity with technology.
He shared anecdotes from his successful films such as Cheeni Kum, Paa, and Shamitabh, providing valuable lessons in filmmaking and content creation. He emphasized the importance of "authenticity" in filmmaking, explaining that the core of any successful story lies in its ability to resonate with audiences on a deeply personal level.
Drawing from his experience in the industry, he highlighted how ideas and narratives could transcend the boundaries of traditional mediums, from film to digital media. He emphasized the importance of passion and perseverance in the creative process, encouraging students to pursue their ideas without fear of failure.
After the Fire-Side chat, the floor was open for students to interact with Shri. R. Balki. The students asked questions regarding his filmmaking journey, creative process, writer’s block, and current challenges and opportunities in the industry. He engaged students with his thought-provoking answers and gave valuable insights on storytelling and innovation.
The Fire–Side Chat session concluded with a Vote of thanks by Dr. Sanjay Kamtekar, CAO, MIT World Peace University, marking the successful conclusion of an enriching and enlightening visit.
