Field Visits

The Department of Public Health has organized a series of enriching field visits for first-year MPH students, offering practical insights into various aspects of public health. The first visit took students to the Emergency Response Centre (MEMS) at Aundh Chest Hospital, where they explored MEMS's operational processes and technology infrastructure, creating an awareness of emergency medical services. Subsequently, students visited the IEC Bureau and the Office of Joint Director of Malaria Filaria, learning about effective health communication strategies and disease epidemiology. The third field visit to the State Family Welfare Bureau provided exposure to child health programs and immunization initiatives. The next visit was to ICMR NARI where the students observed the institute's pivotal role in supporting the National AIDS Control Programme, particularly in areas such as surveillance, capacity building, laboratory services, and drug resistance studies. Guided by eminent scientists from varied disciplines, the institute's research activities were showcased to the students.

One of the main field visits of our students have also been to ICMR NIV where the students had the opportunity to explore the institute's rich history and significant contributions to virology research in India. Established in 1952 as the Virus Research Centre under the joint auspices of the ICMR and the Rockefeller Foundation, the institute has been at the forefront of investigating arthropod-borne viruses. This hands-on experience provided students with invaluable insights into the institute's groundbreaking research efforts and its crucial contribution to the advancement of virology research in India.
