Department of Civil Engineering has well equipped laboratories separately for undergraduate, post graduate and research programmers. Each lab has state-of-art equipment’s necessary to conduct corresponding courses in that laboratory. The testing of materials laboratory has 100 Ton, Universal Testing machine with digital display, Compression testing machine, Research in Structural dynamics, Bio-mechanics, Concrete characterization,separate research infrastructure is provided. The heavy structures laboratory has 3 D loading frame with 2 tonne capacity, for testing specimens subjected to combined loads.

We have three separate computer labs with more than 100 high configuration desktops cater for UG and PG programmers. Students may work on different application software like variety of Auto desk product, Primavera, MATLAB, MS Project, REVIT, ANSYS,  STAAD PRO, STRUDS, SAP and ETAB etc. to fulfill their academic and project needs. All these laboratories are well equipped with network printers. The 500 Mbps internet facility and limited WiFi is available for students. The final year, post graduate students and Ph.D. scholars are provided with wide range of research journals in bind volumes as well as online access.

We have Digital Classrooms and Seminar Hall that aid modern learning tools. Department library is regularly upgraded with trending Books, Reference books, Design handbooks, Prevailing codes, Audio-visual aids, Digital library and e Library facility accessible anywhere across department. Students & Faculty have access to publications like Science Direct, Elsevier through institutional login.

The Transportation Engineering Laboratory is well equipped with Los Angeles Abrasion Testing Machine, Impact Testing Machine, Ductility Machine, Thickness Gauge, Elongation Gauge, Ring & Ball Apparatus, Tar Viscometer, Standard Penetrometer, Marshall Stability Apparatus, Marshall Stability Apparatus, Benkleman Beam, Sieves, Centrifuge Extractor and accelerated testing in Bitumen. Testing and consultancy with high accurancy as per the IRC, IS and ASTM standards are done in the laboratory. The laboratory is used by UG and PG Students for reseach work.

Fluid Mechanics Laboratory

Fluid mechanics is the branch of science that deals with the study of all fluids under static and dynamic situations. Fluid mechanics can be divided into fluid statics, the study of fluids at rest; and fluid dynamics, the study of the effect of forces on fluid motion. This study area deals with many and diversified problems such as pressure distribution- fluid statics, flow in enclose bodies, or flow round bodies (solid or otherwise), flow stability, etc. The Fluid mechanics laboratory is well equipped with flow measuring devices, hydraulic bench, tilting flume and wind tunnel machinery which investigates principles involving pipe flow and open channel hydraulics. Most of these equipments are in house development. The laboratory is used by all UG students.

The laboratory accomodates 20 computers which are installed with latest softwares in the field of structural engineering such as STAAD Pro, SAP 2000, ETABS, Perform 3D, NISA Civil, STRUD etc. The laboratory is used by UG, PG and PhD students for their project work and research activities. The software training sessions are conducted in this laboratory. Also this plays very important role in revenue generation through consultancy work carried out in the school.

The laboratory is developed by the funding received under MODROBS. The laboratory is well equiped with SERVO Dynamic Shake Table, instrumentation required, and few models. The laboratory is used by UG as well as PG students. The SERVO Dynamic Shake Table is 0.6m x 0.6m with payload capacity of 50kg. This has capacity to apply real time history record. The scale down models can also be tested in this laboratory.

The Heavy structural laboratory is equiped with prestressing yard to cast the prestressed elements and we can conduct various test like comprssion, flexural, torsional,shear and lateral loads on specimen. There is also an arrangemt of impact testing to evaluate various precast panels.

“The environmental engineering laboratory is a core laboratory shared by undergraduate, post graduate, and doctoral students of the school of civil engineering. It serves both teaching and research objectives of the school. The laboratory is used for teaching undergraduate courses like CVE215 A Environmental Engineering, CVE323D Solid Waste Management, and CVE333D Design of Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants. The laboratory is also routinely used by undergraduate students of Polymer, Petroleum and Chemical Engineering.

The laboratory is unique in its analytical capabilities since it has a broad analytical testing capabilities for detection of various key parameters in environmental matrices like air, water, and soil. It is frequently used to serve the water testing needs of MIT-WPU Kothrud and MIT-ADT Loni Kalbhor campuses. Moreover, it serves the experimental needs of five environmental engineering doctoral students. The laboratory has a revenue stream in the form of water and wastewater testing. It houses state of the art analytical instruments like UV-VIS spectrophotometer and Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer. There is an expected expansion in the academic year 2020-2021 aimed at improving its microbiological and air quality testing capabilities specifically with the addition of PM1.0 sampler, Micro Orifice Uniform Deposition Impactors, DNA Extraction Hood, and a PCR thermal cycler. It is anticipated that the laboratory will undergo NABL accreditation by academic 2022-2023.”

The Geotechnical Engineering laboratory is equipped with facilites to carry out minar and major tests on soils. These includes standard soil testing equipment for soil classification, compaction, consolidation and for shear strength parameters such as stress strain controlled direct shear, unconfined compression ,monotonic triaxial devices.Equipment for extracting the field samples is also available. The Laboratory also comprises the field testing facilties such as Standard Penetration test (SPT) and Electrical resistivity set up for observing the Bearing capacity of soil and the Ground profile. The laboratory is well-equipped for the testing and consultancy work .

The Surveying laboratory have standard Surveying instruments including conventional instuments like prismatic compass, dumpy level, 20″ theodolite, 1″ theodolite, Nautical Sextant, maps and toposheets. The laboratory is having a modern survey instruments like digital plannimeter, digital level, digital theodolite, total station and GPS. Our Surveying Laboratory is well-equipped with equipment for all survey work involved in different civil engineering project. The laboratory is used by all UG students.
