The American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) Student Chapter at Department of Chemical Engineering, School of Petroleum, Polymer and Chemical Engineering, MITWPU had the privilege of hosting the Regional Student Conference (SYNTROPY 2019) on the 30-31 August 2019. RSC has been a platform, which aims at exposing students to the industrial trends, and knowledge, focusing on Process Safety and Emerging Technologies. RSC comprised of Interactive sessions, Technical workshops, and the most anticipated Chem-E-Car Competition. Students from all over India representing 22 universities participated in this mega event.
National Study Tour to Hyderabad
Visit to CSIR-IICT, Hyderabad. Students were briefed about the history, culture and current research areas like Organic pesticides, Water filters, Chemicals/hormone trapping, Bio-digesters, Paints, etc. A pilot plant with its various components and applications was demonstrated to the students. They got exposure to analytical methods like X-Ray spectroscopy and Mass Spectrometry. This was followed by a visit to the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) which had a state of art incubation center. Post lunch the students visited the Outreach Facility of ISRO National Remote Sensing Centre. The achievements of ISRO were shown to the students through videos and with the posters and models an exhibition hall.
Student Association/ Activities
The school of Chemical Engineering has been granted one of the prestigious Student chapters of American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AICHE Chapter) in 2018, only 11 such chapters in India. Annual Industry Institute Interaction Event ‘CHEMOVISION 2018’ under AICHE Chapter was organized in the month of March 2018 at MIT WPU. The theme for this year’s Chemovision is ‘Upcoming trends in chemical engineering’. It’s a National Level event where students from all over India participate in various activities spread over 3 days. All the events are judged by the Industry Personnel such as Mock Placement where Industry HR conduct interviews like real placement drives. We have Industry defined problems, Paper Presentations, Poster presentations etc to name a few. Also the last day consists of Panel Discussion where all major Oil & Gas, Refining, Petrochemical, Pharmaceutical, Agrochemical Industry dignitaries come and share their views with the students.
Petrovision that was commenced in 2003 as Petrotech Student Chapter has been rebranded to Chemovision under AICHE Student Chapter.
