Welcome to the exciting world of Chemical Engineering!
Chemical Engineering is one of the oldest Engineering disciplines in existence today.Chemical Engineering is a dynamic discipline and it has been evolving continuously since the days of craft innovations of prehistoric times.hemical engineering has played an important role in the development of chemical industry, which, in turn, has played a key role in the matters of providing the essential human needs.

The discipline covers a wide-ranging set of societal interests and needs, including the following: health; habitable environment; national defense and security; transportation; communications; treating diseases; agriculture; development of smaller, faster computer chips to innovations in recycling; clothing and food; and various life amenities.Chemical engineering has played an important role in the development of chemical industry, which, in turn, has played a key role in the matters of providing the essential human needs. The discipline covers a wide-ranging set of societal interests and needs, including the following: health; habitable environment; national defense and security; transportation; communications; treating diseases; agriculture; development of smaller, faster computer chips to innovations in recycling; clothing and food; and various life amenities. Chemical engineering is also concerned with pioneering valuable new materials and techniques; an important form of research and development with direct applications in pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, artificial kidneys, oil refineries, solar panels, clean water, and biocompatible polymers. Beyond designing, manufacturing, and using products, chemical engineering also includes devising new ways to measure, effectively analyze, and possibly redesign complex systems involving chemical and biological processes.

The multi-disciplinary and versatile nature of this branch provides a broad spectrum of career opportunities. Global Chemical Industry is estimated to be USD 3.5 trillion and considered one of the fastest growing sectors of the manufacturing industry. In 2017, Global sales in this sector were estimated to be USD 8.2 trillion. Indian Chemical Industry is the third largest in the world and continues to grow at 8% per annum and it will be $ 450 Billion industry in 2025. It Constitutes 15% of manufacturing capacity and 20% of excise revenue and converts raw materials (oil, natural gas, air, water, metals &minerals into more than 70,000 different products. Approx. US $ 28 billion turnover which is approx. 7% of India’s GDP.

A new model of “borderless chemical engineering science” is emerging and driving the profession towards achieving symbiotic relationship with other disciplines. Almost every process, product, or application that has attracted the discipline’s attention involves chemical, physical, and/or biological phenomena at various spatial and temporal scales Chemical engineering synthesizes knowledge from several disciplines (multidisciplinary) and interacts with professionals from multiple disciplines (interdisciplinary). Chemical engineering development, as guided by its four main paradigms: unit operations, transport phenomena, product engineering and sustainable chemical engineering. Today the modern R &D have become available from drawing rooms across the globe.

At MIT-WPU Department of Chemical Engineering, we strive to develop chemical engineers into global citizens with sound values. Challenges are opportunities for chemical engineers who are best prepared with problem solving skills to tackle the challenges for a better and sustainable world. The breadth and versatility of their training will continue to open many new opportunities for them in the future. Our B. Tech Programme is based on the three cardinal principles of providing social context to education, giving maximum choice to the students when it comes to choosing their own career path and encouraging active learning as implemented through our famed WPU Method. The B.Tech program is a total of 4 years divided into 12 trimesters and around 175 credits, which are earned throughout the 4 year period. The village immersion program, national study tour, international study tour, active learning methods like Problem Based Learning (PBL), Experiential Learning and Collaborative Learning are the special features of our program. This endures that the students of the Chemical Engineering department of MIT-WPU are developed into world class engineers and technologists by providing them with a broad based education, team building skills, and professional values in a nurturing as well as creative learning environment. This program is truly blending of latest industry trends with fundamental knowledge base in Chemical Engineering.

Our department has excellent infrastructural facilities for training students in this interdisciplinary program. The students are trained by our highly qualified, experienced and competent faculty in an atmosphere which is highly conducive for Teaching-Learning process. We stress on the importance of the latest relevant soft wares and to that end the students are given practical hands on training on the latest software used by Industries such as ASPEN PLUS, HYSYS, HTRI, COMSOL MULTIPHYSICS, and MATLAB. Our Department strives to maintain our traditionally strong links with industry through interactions spanning consultancy, sponsored research and continuing education. Our Chemical Engineering department also supports cutting edge research in diverse areas such fuel combustion and microelectronics, energy systems, biotechnology, consumer products, manufacturing, advanced materials and environmental solutions. The department has been granted one of the Student Chapters of the prestigious American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) in 2018, only eleven of the kind. At MIT, the AIChE student chapter provides a voice for undergraduates in department affairs, encourages the professional development of students through seminars workshops and events concerning graduate school applications, job hunting, and professional life in industry. Earlier event, PETROVISION, has been rebranded to CHEMOVISION under the aegis of AIChE student chapter from year 2018.

Here at MIT-WPU we believe in the holistic growth of our students and to facilitate that we have numerous activities for their benefit. The WPU Method stresses on peace studies under which we encourage students to find their own harmony by conducting Yoga Classes and classes which teach the wisdom of saints and philosophers so that our students are firmly grounded in ethics and morality. We carry various outreach programs like our Rural Immersion program under which our students are taken to rural areas in order for them to understand the everyday issues of the people there while they are tasked with using their acquired engineering skills to find cheap and reliable solutions for them. We encourage our students to partake in sports and to that end we have active sporting events along with well stocked sporting gear for various sports and fields to cater to football, cricket, basketball, swimming and many others!

Because of this well designed and unique approach the students are fully equipped to take responsibilities in the Chemical Industry such as Manufacturing, Fertilizers, Pharmaceuticals, Healthcare, Agrochemicals, Polymers, Paints, Pigments, Dyes, Textile, Ceramics, Paper & Pulp, Design and Construction, Petrochemicals, Specialty Chemicals, Microelectronics, Electronic and Advanced materials, Polymers, Business services, Biotechnology, Environmental, Food & Biotechnology and Oil & Gas Sector amongst others.
