Selected amongst Top 17 Teams in India in Virtual Event
Description about Project:
MIT Kothrud participated in the event organized by SAE INDIA by the name TIFAN 2018 (TIFAN stands for “Technology Innovation Forum for Agricultural Nurturing”). The motto behind organizing the competition was to make a Self Propelled Onion Harvester, which will be helpful to Indian farmers to move from manual farm labor to automation for maximum production output from minimum efforts input.
The Team Mechnix of 25 Mechanical Engineering Students from MIT and MITCOE Pune combined was lead by Team Captain Pratik Gaikwad from Third Year of Mechanical Engineering. During the Virtual event of TIFAN in November 2017, Team qualified amongst the TOP 17 Teams in India. By the End of December 2017 team was ready with design the complete layout of the farm machine in all respects to the extent of being considered ready‐to‐manufacturing.
Students Started the final manufacturing of the machine in January 2018. With the hard work and dedication of all the students, the machine was ready to work by the end of February 2018. Here the team would like to thank the college and especially the faculty for providing time to time guidance which lead to the success of ‘Creating the machine which was once a Dream’.
After proper Testing and evaluating the machine, team headed for the final event in Mahatma PhuleKrishi Vidhyapeeth Rahuri, Maharashtra. The event was organized by reputed companies like John Deere, Cummins, Mahindra, BKT, Solidworks, Ansys and Caterpillar. Team proved its worthiness by successfully completing all the evaluation tests conducted by event organizers in first attempt itself. Finally on 23rd March 2018 Team Mechnix competed with other teams in farm. It brings immense pleasure to say that Team Mechnix machine ‘Lakshya 1.0’ Successfully completed the onion harvesting with AIR 4th Rank.
MIT-WPU Tech Team has been, and continues to be one of the leading teams at Robocon India. We are the only Indian team to reach the 5th position at the International Robocon – a Robotics Competition. This is the highest rank achieved by any Indian team.
Among other achievements, we were the first team to use pneumatic pistons at Robocon India in the year 2011. Also, in the year 2013, we introduced holonomic drive systems for the first time. Other teams have extensively used these technologies in the following years at Robocon. In the year 2016, we were the only Indian team to successfully complete the theme using complete automation. Our alumni have published research papers in reputed national and international journals. This showcases our technological strength and proves our consistent performance at Robocon.
The Team Robocon
We are a group of promising engineers from branches like E&TC,Computer,Mechanical,Civil, and Petroleum. We work systematically for a year before the competition. The MIT-WPU Robocon team started its journey in Robocon 2005. In the past 12+ years, the team has shown a great potential and constant progress. The major reason for the team’s success is that MIT-WPU believes in Sharing and exchange of knowledge. Each year the new ideas and technology has been enhanced over the solid foundations of past years’ experience.
As a part of Robocon group, students imbibe strong abilities across, blue-printing, planning, designing, coding, cutting & welding, Conceptualising & researching, Presenting & testing and above all working with cross-functional teams for effective resource management. In fact, some of the best brains from MIT-WPU Tech Team have been hired by organisations to work on noted Robotics & Automations projects of national & international significance.
The year 2014 marked the beginning of the new era, the new trend to have a united technical carnival wherein the departments of Computer, E&TC, Mechanical and IT Engineering from MIT-WPU, Pune mutually organized a National Level event called “TEXEPHYR” on the 20th, 21st and 22nd of February 2014.
TEXEPHYR is the tech-Fest, where an entire generation of the brightest students galvanize to meet and tackle the ablaze in the fields of engineering. The entire student community under the guidance of the professors and support of their departments, irrespective of their branches, seniority and experiences unite together, and their enthusiasm is palpable at each and every step. A testimony to this is the fact that, within a short span of time, we came up with a record 40 events in the TEXEPHYR.
TEXEPHYR Events are categorized into various domains like ROBOTICS, CODING-EVENTS, BE-PROJECT, PAPER PRESENTATION and non-technical events like treasure-hunt, snap-hunt, legends of hidden networks, etc. Each event is reviewed and judged by a panel of prestigious judges who are the masters in their respective domains from the reputed companies.

Sourabh magazine is the annual college magazine of Maharashtra Institute of Technology,Pune inspired by Prof.Dr.V.D. Karad sir and R.V. Karad sir. Sourabh has always stood as a medium for the students of MIT-WPU to showcase their talents in the forms of writing, art, design or painting to the larger college audience. It gives them a stage to speak freely on regional, national and international issues.
The magazine includes students from all branches of the college, divided into 4 teams,English, Marathi, Hindi and Design. From the conception of the theme to its final execution, every single aspect of the magazine is managed by students.
The magazine includes articles and poems by students and faculty members, as also reports on various activities conducted by the college, along with departmental reports every year. The highlight of Sourabh is the interviews of achievers from all fields. Various eminent personalities are interviewed every year and those interviews are included as one of the main attractions of the magazine.
Sourabh Magazine was printed for the first time in 1985-86 and since then it has bettered itself every year. The magazine which was once started in a black and white tone has now transformed itself into one of the most vibrant college magazines in Pune, not just in design but also in content. Team Sourabh is one of the most passionate, committed and hard working teams on the MIT-WPU, Pune campus which works hard to put together this magazine together with each and every page painstakingly put together. It has become a trend for Sourabh to talk about national and global issues and as a result we focus our themes based on the need of the nation. In 2009 our issue called “Giving back to Society” stood 1st among competing college magazines in Pune City for the Best Magazine Title given every year by Pune University. In 2010, we went a step ahead with our issue “Colours of Life” which went on to bag the 1st prize not just in Pune City but in the whole Pune University region among 400 competing colleges.
Apart from writing,Team Sourabh involves itself with various other philanthropic activities. The team visited Manavya, an AIDS rehabilitation Centre in Bhugaon to spend some time with those afflicted by it, and spread happiness in the lives of those distressed by the syndrome. A donation drive , Muskaan, was also conducted by the team. The team also organised a visit to an orphanage called Sanmati Bal Niketan. Along with such events, the team also organises treks and tree plantation drives.
One issue which is very close to the heart of Sourabh is language. It’s written in English,Hindi and Marathi and every language is given equal importance. We believe that language isn’t a barrier, it should break barriers, and hence work with this same thought.
