M.Sc. Biotechnology

Biotechnology is a truly interdisciplinary technology that has led to significant socio-economic progress. In recent years, translation of biotechnology into socio
economic development has been realized due to the development of products, processes and services in healthcare, medicine, agriculture, veterinary, environment, energy and other sectors. It signifies dealing with biological systems at the molecular, cellular and organic level to develop technology in terms of either a product or a process.

This post-graduate program harnesses the core principles of biotechnology and bioengineering to generate controlled processes or products related to healthcare, biopharmaceutical, industrial and sustained biotechnologies. It covers a broad range of subjects from biochemistry, genomics, proteomics, stem cell technology, nanobiotechnology, biomimetics, bioanalytics, pharmacovigilance, computational biology, systems & synthetic biology.

The course structure is designed in consultation with leading researchers, biomedical, clinical and industrial experts to give a specialized knowledge and practical skills needed for a career in biotechnology.

Moreover, the program emphasizes industry exposure, innovation, entrepreneurship and life skills. The program has a dedicated course on entrepreneurship and innovation as well.

B.Sc. (Biotechnology / Biochemistry / Microbiology / Botany / Zoology / Life Sciences /Biomedical Sciences / Chemistry).

B. Pharm.; B.Sc. Agriculture; B. Tech. (Biotechnology and related stream).

Student must be passed from a recognized university with minimum 50% marks (45% marks for backward class and physically disabled students)

What will be you learn?

During first two trimesters, you will learn and develop insight in to the fundamental subjects like Biochemistry, Enzymology, Molecular and Cell Biology, Microbiology, Genomics and Biostatistics along with practical skills.

In trimester three and four, you will learn advanced subjects stem cell technology, biomimetics and nanobiotechnology, Computational Biology, Pharmacovigilance and data management in biotechnology, systems and synthetic biology along practical exposure in bioanalytical techniques.

Fifth and sixth trimester will focus on applying knowledge through research projects and industry internship. You will also undergo a dedicated course on Innovation, Entrepreneurship and IPR.

Throughout the program your soft skills will be enhanced through courses on yoga, human dynamics and mind control, personality development and peace studies.

The course will have continuous assessment every trimester to help you better understand the subjects, develop insight and keep track of your progress.

The pedagogy methods used are learning through problem-solving approach, participative learning and experiential learning, discussions, assignment, demonstrations, scientific animations, use of audio-visual aids (digital classroom).

About School of Biology


Education and research in biological sciences are foundation for the development of modern science and technology. The education in biological sciences and technology is important to groom young generation of India for social and economic development. Welcome to School of Biology at MIT-WPU! We offer masters program in Biotechnology and Ph.D. program in core and interdisciplinary areas of Life sciences. Our courses are intended to develop an insight into molecular and cellular basis of life and its applications in health, medicine, sustainable biotechnologies, preparing a student for a career in research or industry. World Economic Forum has identified healthcare as one of the top 10 Global Challenges for 2030 and there is a growing demand for specialists in this field. At School of Biology, students advance professionally by gaining knowledge and practical skills through interdisciplinary approach with increasing responsibilities in Biotechnology industry, Research and Academia.
